Tele lens for iPhone

I recently got myself an add-on tele lens for my iPhone. Not this model, but similar. I haven't taken it on vacation yet, but have taken some photos at home and I am pretty satisfied. It is a bit difficult to attach but I hope it will be easier with practice.

I think it is a good compromise between an iPhone and a p&s camera with a zoom - not a replacement for a DSLR.

I'm looking forward to taking it to Madeira in September.

If it works for you, I suppose that's all that's important. I'd never use a product like that for several reasons.....

  1. I always keep my phone in a shock-resistant case, which doesn't allow attachment of accessories.
  2. Even with a telephoto lens, one is still limited by the inability of phone cameras to deal with low light conditions or subjects in motion. In that regard, even a P&S would be a better option.
  3. Attachments are kind of a "kludgy" solution, and not one I'd be prepared to tolerate.

If you have a generous budget, you could also look at one of these - https://www.amazon.ca/DxO-20-2MP-Digital-Connected-Camera/dp/B01L25N77O?th=1&psc=1&source=googleshopping&locale=en-CA&tag=googcana-20 .

Good luck!

After trying the lens for a couple of weeks I tend to agree with Ken. It is very difficult to mount, it is very difficult to focus, and it is very difficult to avoid pushing it out of focus. Other models may be better.

Part of the problem is that my phone has a shock absorbing case and that makes the clamp less effective. If they come up with a model, where the thread for the lens is in the case rather than in a clamp, I might try it again.

Kudos t you, l.p. for sharing your experience. Sometimes we learn from what DOESN'T work---and it is important to share those lessons, too. Goodness knows we have all had things that didn't go as planned or as hoped! Thanks for sharing your real world experience with the tele lens for the iPhone.

I'm a fan of external lenses for iPhones, too. The trick is to find durable and good quality ones, coz if you start with a cheap one, it may ruin the experience and make you hate all other external iPhone camera accessories too.
