Sim card for both UK and Greece?

We will be starting our trip in London, then on to Greece. Is there sim card that would work for both?

Yes, you just need to verify coverage. At one time it was required for companies to cover both with no roaming charges, but since the UK left the EU, it is up to the phone company. I used to use Vodaphone since they seem to be all over Europe, and pleased with their packages and coverage.

Vodafone UK no longer offers free EU roaming. There’s a additional fee. Either by the day or multi day packages. EE still offers free roaming. I haven’t done the math to see which is cheaper. But at £15 or about $18 US (EE 15GB package) it’s pretty cheap. Especially vs the international pricing of US carriers.

I popped into the EE shop at Covent Garden and was out in about 20 minutes with working service.

Good to know. And EE has good coverage for most of mainland Greece!

Rocket - are you aware of any way to buy an EE or other European SIM card while still in the US? We had a VodafoneUK card which no longer offers free roaming and we'd like to buy a SIM before we leave the US.

I think Giffgaff UK still ships SIM cards overseas. The question I have is would you need to activate it in the UK before roaming to the EU. A quick Google search shows dates info that activation can be outside the UK. If your phone uses an e SIM that opens up other options. Especially for data only.

My experience with Orange is that they did not easily let you top up, once you were out of the country of origin. I would go to a shop once where you are going and talk to them, and have them get you up and running.
