SFR European Travel SIM

I bought a physical European Travel SIM from SFR at a tobacconist in Paris 3 months ago, with an activation validity of 2026.

I gave this chip as a gift to a friend who traveled to Amsterdam this month. The package says that you just need to insert the physical chip and it will be activated, but when this sim card was inserted into a cellphone in Amsterdam, it did not work.
I tried to contact SFR channels, but they are all in French.

Does anyone know what it could be or if there is any way to get real support from them?

I'm looking into getting an e-SIM from SFR for later this month in Paris and I also have not yet found support info in English. I do know that Apple recommends SFR, along with a few other local providers, for e-SIM service while in France if you are using a pretty recent iPhone (which can store many e-SIMS and use two at the same time)

Most phones sold in the US are carrier locked to the carrier it was purchased from. To use a SIM overseas it must be unlocked. Verizon phones will automatically unlock 30 days after purchasing.

In most cases, the carrier will unlock the phone once it's fully paid for and the contract it was purchased under (if any) has been fulfilled.

My policy is to purchase only unlocked phones. Makes life much easier.

Hmm. I don’t believe that Apple actually recommends any particular carrier. The closest list I found was one that shows wireless carriers that support eSIM. That list is a bit misleading as it doesn’t seem to include MVNOs who buy service from actual carriers and resell under their own brand.

I’m with jghbucks I get my phones unlocked. Gives me the ultimate flexibility to decide which service to use. Both internationally and domestic.
