Ryan and Maybe Wizz Air payment problems.

A while back there was a RS type that was having trouble making payment on a Wizz Air ticket. I couldn’t understand it. Ive booked a few Wizz Air tickets over the years with no issue. Ive booked a few Ryan Air tickets with no problems as well.

So today I sat down to buy two tickets from Vienna to Rome and two from Rome to Budapest on Ryan Air. People, I tried everything, and I couldn’t do it. Different credit cards and even an ATM with no luck.

Ryan offered one other choice, PayPal. So I set up my PayPal to charge my credit card and I returned to Ryan Air. It worked. The charge was in Euro so my bank did the transaction, but PayPal did charge me a service fee. I am a devout capitalist so I believe in paying people that can provide a service. The fee wasn’t bad at all. So there is an option if anyone else runs into this.

One of the cards did have multi factor authentication (the text code thing), but Ryan didn’t try and get it and PayPal didn’t trigger it for some reason. Then I deleted the credit card from PayPal. My PayPal is linked to a bank account with less than $100 in it. I use it because I receive money from time to time through PayPal.

Ten minutes later i booked my hotel with the same credit card. Payment went through just fine.

I've needed to use PayPal a few times for European ticket purchases. I'm not sure I've done it more recently than 2022, but I've paid for a few domestic purchases via PayPal since then.

Perhaps procedures have changed, but I've never paid a fee. I was careful to have PayPal charge a credit card rather than my bank account, and I changed the default selection of DCC.

While you are specifically speaking to Wizz Air and Ryan Air, on this trip I have had a few times where I have tried to make purchases online for a different country than the one I am in, using my credit card - which triggers the 2 factor authentication request. Which I can’t comply with unless I spend $12 and turn on my home cell plan.

Some of those places have offered Apple Pay as an option and the purchase went through just fine. The funny thing is that my Apple Pay is linked to the very same credit card. Who knows?

The two factor is why I have TMobile when I travel. In this case 1 of the three cards I tried had 2 factor on it. So the other two should have worked if that were the problem. I am guessing I missed something but as soon as i hit the pay button red text instantly popped up and told me that there was a problem with payment meathod, check what I input. I am guessing 8 tries before I quit.
