Orange SIM card (not eSIM)

Has anyone purchased an Orange SIM card for use in Europe? I want to be able to make calls within Europe, plus data for navigation. It seems the eSIMS are data-only. Not interested in What’sApp or other WiFi calling. The trip is 15 days…what’s a reasonable amount of GB needed? Thanks in advance—I have only used an international SIM card once, and I bought it in the country I was visiting, so this is new territory for me.

Some hard SIMs are voice+data. Some are data only.

Some eSIMs are data only. Some are voice+data.

Whether a SIM is hardware (card) based or software (eSIM) is not the determinant of whether the carrier offers voice service. As a general rule, it's almost always cheaper to buy a SIM card at your destination than it is at home, especially if you want voice service.

I have used the Orange travel esim on two trips. IIRC, there was no difference between the esim or sim versions. Both were same price with same specs for calls, texts and data. It was a matter of personal choice or phone compatibility. As to the amount of data, my esim came with 12 GB and I probably use 3 GB in 14 days. Data consumption is a matter of personal choice. You should just take a look at your own phone and see how much mobile data you would use on average in a month and use that as a rough guide.

The Orange Holiday eSims I have gotten the past few years had a French phone number associated with them and gave me calling, texting, and data.

The 20Euro 12gb for 14 days might fit your need if you actually have 15 days of vacation, but the first day is a travel day with an overnight flight, so only 14 days of coverage needed. Or do the full month plan and be covered.

Keep in mind for data, you will likely still be at a hotel with wifi, so your "total" data use over two weeks will definitely be spread out. Some phone OS & apps also offer a "sync when on wifi only" vs using "cellular data", so you would save there. If I look at my monthly cell data plan use at home, it is a fraction of 12gb. But I never stream much when not on wifi.
