Orange Sim Card?

I am looking into purchasing an Orange Sim card. I would like to install it and have it ready to go when I land. Where do you recommend purchasing the card? Amazon? If so do you have a link? It looks like you can't purchase one on their website. Would an Orange Holiday Zen 8GB be enough for a little over a two-week trip? Can you top off your before you leave home so as not to hassle with that while traveling?

You can buy either the SIM or eSim. The latter is the easiest if you have an eSIM compatible phone. You can also download the app from Google Play store and probably Apple app store.

How much calories, booze or tobacco do you consume in a day? With regards to data, it just depends on your personal consumption. When I was in Spain for 2 weeks, I only used about 2GB. I used it for Google Maps and reviews, general internet, emails and messaging. On the other hand, if you need to stream a movie each day or to upload videos or photos to your friends every few hours, you will probably use up that data pretty quickly.

I would also recommend an eSIM if you have an unlocked newer phone. And 8Gb should be more than plenty for 2 weeks. I just finished a 22 day trip to Scotland, and had a rental car for 17 of those days, and used my phone's GPS the whole time. Plus all the other stuff (and i can be a data hog). I only just barely went over 5Gb for those 22 days.

With wifi available in most places and the likes of WhatsApp I don’t think you need to get a new SIM card for two weeks

Nick, I always want some kind of cellular service. Yes, wifi is available in many places, but I use GPS a lot for walking, driving and public transportation and it's difficult to find wifi just walking through the streets and impossible on the road if you're driving. You can download some maps, but I don't want to have to deal with that. For $10 or so, you can get an eSIM that will give you all of that without having to constantly find wifi. To me, it's a no brainer.

That said, I will agree that you don't need phone service. I use WhatsApp and FaceTime audio for making calls. But I still get an eSIM (I use Airalo, which is a data plan only; no phone).

Thank you everyone for your input. @Nick I would say having data on your phone is the second most important thing next to your passport being number one. I won’t go into the details and bore you but I had a huge fiasco last year and I had a physical Sim card for that country. I would’ve been in BIG trouble if I didn’t have data. I think it will be easier with Airalo and not having to top off. Thanks again everyone.

Another vote for an eSIM. I've used the Orange Holiday Europe one on my last two trips - Netherlands and Spain - and it worked quite well at a reasonable price. Essentially, scan a bar code at home, follow their directions (I have an iPhone), and change to it when you land in Europe. 8GB was plenty for me for regular use of my phone for 10 days - google maps, web searches, email, etc. I generally download google maps offline for cities I will visit, so that likely helps a little with data use/need for data, and hotels did have wifi which also lowers data use. But, when there was a two hour delay due to train problems and we had to scramble a little to replan our day, having data and a phone number ready to go really helped. Obviously, I could have just roamed with my US plan, but not having to think about cost per day charges is always nice.

Here's what I got direct from Orange:
With your Orange Holiday Europe offer, you benefit from:
1. 8 GB of data valid in Europe
2. 30 minutes + 200 text messages (international)
3. Unlimited calls + text messages in Europe
4. Valid for 14 days

Point taken, there’s no roaming charges in Europe for Europeans (most of us) I just personally like not having or using my phone while I’m on holidays. Totally switch off, but everyone is different and some of the best places I’ve discovered have been by mistake

Hopefully you won’t have any stressful experiences this time

A phone is essential now. Remember there are very few payphones and WiFi in Europe and the UK can be unreliable in my own experience. Just make sure you set it to 'download over WiFi only' so the thing doesn't update using up your data. Orange is good in my experience too.
