Offline tool for blogging

On my last big trip 4 years ago, I used Blogger on my iPad as well as a great little app called Blogsy that let me write, add and arrange photos, etc. off line while traveling. When I got to a hotel with Wi-Fi, all I needed to do was to connect and publish. iPad no longer supports the Blogger App and Blogsy no longer exists, so after a little time and effort I have gotten comfortable with using WordPress on my iPad.

However, I'm still trying to figure out the best way to work off line. I have tried using the Blogo app without much success. It doesn't seem possible to arrange photos, create slide shows, etc. It also doesn't have any kind of spell check, which I'm finding super annoying. AND I haven't been able to export my posts to WordPress or sync them with WordPress, even though Blogo recognizes my WordPress site.

I'm curious to know how other people have handled this situation. Do you have an offline app you like? Do you just write offline on some sort of notes app and then cut and paste? I'm looking for the easiest way to write offline and want to try to avoid having to write, design, edit, etc. all at the end of the day when I'm at a hotel with wi fi but also utterly exhausted.

Thanks for your ideas!

Ruth,

The method I use is to diarize each day in a Word document on a Netbook, and then cut & paste as required to my Blog. The material posted to the Blog is always edited as there are some details in my notes that I'd rather not share in a public forum. My Netbook has a built-in SD card reader, so if I have time, I'll upload a few photos each day, but I generally don't finish the Blog until after I get home. I'd rather not use too much valuable holiday time working on a Blog.

I have used Wordpress on Android phone and tablet offline and it seems to save drafts just fine, though to be honest I haven't traveled using the most recent interface. I have had to poke around to find the settings I'm used to. Much of the time I use a basic notepad app to save my thoughts and then copy them to Wordpress. For my upcoming trip, I've saved draft blog posts for each day so I don't have to start from scratch (they just have a title and a few words about the itinerary to remind me).

Hi Ruth,

One reason these kinds of apps do not work any more, at least for Blogger, is tighter security, since the apps require access to you Google account.

If you are still using Blogger, my suggestion is to draft your post in Google Docs. Then you can paste it into a blog post when you are online.

If you have switched to WordPress, then the suggestion to use MS Word in the same way is also a good alternative. But Blogger does not handle pasts from Word well.

I think that Google should set it up to publish to Blogger from Docs. It shouldn't be that hard, and the security issue is moot, since you are already inside your Google account.

Saving drafts offline with Wordpress sounds great, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it on the ipad app. When I write offline, it appears my only option is to select "publish," which then leads me to a "no connection" message. When I turn airplane mode off and go into the Wordpress app, I can't seem to find drafts anywhere. I must be doing something wrong! Lauren or others, I'd appreciate it if you could walk me through how to save drafts offline and then retrieve them later. Thanks!!!
