So after reading some posts last year about noise cancelling headphones, I asked Santa for a pair for Xmas. He got me the cheap-ish over ear Sony ones (they were on sale for $80, but run over $100). I finally got to use them on our trip and what a difference on the plane. Even just turning them on and off to hear how much they cancel out the noise from the engines. So if you are on the fence about getting a pair, give them a try. Needless to say 'Santa' is going to get a pair this year for Xmas.
Congratulations! They make an amazing difference, don't they? I have Sony s too, won't get on the plane without them.
Model # if you please?
Bruce...I'll have to look that up when I get home.
Yep. I was gifted a set of noise cancelling headphones by DH on our last trip. He presented them as we were settling into our seats for the flight to London. Knowing roughly what they cost (they're Bose), I gave him a side eye. But he encouraged me to try them. I'm sure the expression on my face was priceless. They're magic! Fabulous when flying. Also good on trains. Even in the hotel, I could slap those puppies on and watch a movie while DH watched TV or slept. And they're so comfortable, unlike my ear buds, which always bothered my ears. I'm packing them for every trip from now on.
I also received a pair from Santa (Bose) and yes, they do make a difference. Love them.
I think many of us are interested in Nicole's giving us the model number of the ones she has. I would like a pair, but won't pay for the Bose, and the online reviews and recommendations of all the other brands and models are not trustworthy.

I'm 99% sure this is the correct ones...they look the same...I'm in the uk right now, so it's linking to the UK Amazon site. I know there are more expensive ones, and if I travelled more than once a year, I'd probably go for that. But since I'm only going to use them travelling, I couldn't justify having santa spend that much money...lol.
I wear glasses and don't find the over ear design bothers my ears much...maybe a spot tender where the arms of my glasses are behind my ear. I was more worried about it being bothersome, but not a big deal.
Just to add...I was a little Leary of these because I read horrible reviews and read great reviews. Now, probably compared to the Bose, they suck. But for $80 and using them for 10-14 hours a year when we fly, they are fine. I'm not worried about crystal clear sound quality. And you can still get some ambient noise coming thru, but nothing compared to having them off. Also, I had them on backwards for part of the flight...lol. Don't know my left from right, but once I got em the right way, even better.
The ones I have are listed on target.com for $49.99. I think I got them for slightly less on sale last year. Work fine for me!
Are the Sony s earphones the ones on sale when you bought them?
Nevermind my Sony question. I found out about this not-so-popular ones: TaoTronics TT-EP01. They were listed in Gaming Scan as good "gaming earbuds". I figured I should give it a go even if I'm not actually gonna use it for gaming.
