JOMO travel

This seems counter to using Tik Tok as your travel planning tool. ;-}

We have a term we use: “Urban Hiking.” It is the pursuit of scenic walks in or near cities. In London, Hampstead Heath or Richmond Park, are examples.

I only recently learned the British expression

cash on your hip

instead of the normal English phrase

pocket money

or spending money

for the surplus that is burning a hole in your pocket as you flaneurate around town.

How about SMO, when something you’d looked forward to, like a Sicilyfest in London earlier this month, turns into a big disappointment (exceedingly loud, booming music that detracted from the food and culture setting, making it impossible to talk with any vendors and attendees), that’s a Should’ve Missed Out.

This captures perfectly the activity that my wife and I enjoy every vacation, nearly every day. London and Edinburgh are especially good cities in which to urban hike. Valencia is another, with the fabulous Turia Park. Thanks for the comment!
