Mobile Passport App Question

Hi,

I just got the mobile passport app and have uploaded our info (names, DOB, passport info). I understand that I can fill out the 6 question form before arrival and then submit it once we have landed. We are entering the US in Atlanta. My question is when do you take the selfie? Can you do the selfie prior to landing in the US at your previous international airport before submitting the form to CPB on arrival in the US or do you submit the form and then do a selfie once you are in the US arrival terminal? Sorry for the stupid question but I have searched the forum and queried others and don’t have a clear answer on this. Global Entry is not an option for us as the nearest interview sites are hours away from us. Thanks for your help.

We've taken the selfie once we arrive at the gate (while still on the plane). I can't recall if we submit it prior to getting off the plane or once we are on the terminal-but there will be a prompt so you'll know what to do. Such a game changer!

Take the selfie upon arrival (when we all look our worst, lol) and then submit when you get to your arrival gate and have cell/wifi service (or as you're walking through the airport after getting off the plane). It works well and is pretty efficient.

Thanks everyone for the responses. And we do a selfie for both my husband and I. Is that correct?

Yes - a selfie for each of you. We usually take the selfie on the plane after we arrive. (As mentioned above, not looking our best.) It gives us something to do while waiting to deplane.

Thanks @samattud. I agree we are not looking our best at that point in time but it’s not a beauty contest and the selfie won’t be shared on the internet (I hope).

The minute the plane landed in Seattle while we were on the tarmac; I took the selfie and submitted the questions/info they wanted.

We’ve used it three times, twice in Chicago and once in Atlanta. In 2019 we breezed through the Global Entry line rather than the very long regular queue. In Atlanta, they didn’t even have a lane open to deal with it. They had to call an agent over to open up a lane and get set up. It would have been much faster to go through the very short regular line but once you submit the MPC form you have to be processed that way. In 2023, the skeptical agent at O’Hare looked at our phone and wasn’t sure it would work. He scanned the code and said, “How bout that. It worked.” Our take was that most people don’t use it and just wait in the regular line. But we’ll plan to try it again when we return through ORD next month.
