It depends on where you are traveling, but you might want to check out the website for global greeters. Global greeters are local people who volunteer their time to take visitors around their city. It’s a great way to meet a friendly local person.

Do you really need an app for that? What ever happened to hanging out in the local pub/bar/cafe and talking to the people next to you?

An app (a "cool" app??) to meet travelers? While your face is glued to a screen, a world of travelers is passing you by that you will be missing.

You're going to be meeting all kinds of new people on your travels, and that's not something you need an App for. Especially if you're travelling solo, you may find that you become more outgoing and talk to people despite your shyness. One of the best ways to meet new people would be to stay in Hostels. They often have local tours and other activities for guests.

I just use Tinder. It is not just for hooking up. You can find easily find likeminded people without the need to be brave and approach anyone in public. Im more a shy guy too so that is great i think. You will be successful though you need to be clear in what you want, so you dont end up in a misunderstanding. There are also gudes on how it works so be sure to check them out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeRmIrCm1MI

Are you near any of the monthly travel group meetings ? Maybe you could practice meeting new people in a setting where you all have something in common -- interest in travel!

I agree with Ius but I found Tinder to have really low percentage of people just wanting to meetup for coffee or a few drinks (often, they are looking for more). So I tried other apps like Bumble and Coffee Meets Bagel. You might wanna try those or join a local travel forum for where you're visiting. Be careful with giving out your real number though--I made that mistake and ended up in some sort of a marketing list. I got bombarded with SMS of different business promotions which was too annoying since they were coming as SMS!! I hate ads on the web... now even more thru texts. (Got into reading about this and got a bit shocked that marketing thru text is actually booming: https://www.jooksms.com/blog/the-psychology-of-sms-marketing-733/). So be careful with that! And yeah, between Bumble and Coffee Meets Bagel, I prefer Bumble because more people are in there. But if you got time to just text and wait for daily matches, CMB is pretty chill too.

One needs a "cool app" to meet people? Sit at the bar of a pub or restaurant; you could meet plenty of people just from whatever conversation is taking place especially if football or rugby is on the television.

I used Meetup in London and ended up hanging out with sone cool folks at an outing to the British Museum and at a pub. I ended up making a friend who I hung out with a few other times during my trip, and we're still in touch.

Also, there's a subreddit (r/solotravel) for solo travelers; often, people will post when they are looking for people to hang out with in whatever city they're visiting.
