Looking for good inexpensive portable charger for iPhone & iPad

I'm looking for recommendations for a portable charger for my devices. I have an iPhone 6s and a pretty old iPad. Either a battery-powered charger or one that has to be plugged in to charge. Would like to keep the price under $25. Looking for folks who have recommendations on products they've actually used. Thanks!

Battery chargers are only good if you charge them, so you might as well just charge your device. I saw a USB voltage converter with a lightning connector at Walgrens today for $20. The charger you use here should work on multivoltages (100-240 VAC), which could be used with a plug adapter in Europe.

I blew up my Anker in the middle of the Amazon jungle. I replaced it with a Powerbase that I bought at a Radio Shack in the Lima airport. It’s been surprisingly robust and worked well. It is 8500 mAh.

I really like the integrated power cords. You can plug your fire cords into the USB slots at the end.

I can’t find it anywhere in the US but suspect it’s out there.

Two daughters working for two phone companies recommended Mophie charger -- more expensive, but they said it was reliable. Has worked well for us.

Anker large PowerCore charger works well for us on European trips. Take it in your carry on to avoid any luggage problems. Amazon lists it at $41 but it's worth it when you are out all day plus late night and need to use your phones/iPads a lot and there are two of you. We charge our phones and the PowerCore back at the hotel. Just a tip -- our converter finally went bad after 12 years and it took us a while to realize that it was the problem. I bought another 220/110 volt converter in a pharmacy in London and we were back on track after two days and nights of fretting that our phones were somehow on the fritz. My wife also carried a smaller power source in her purse which we used occasionally.

Anker is a popular brand, my husband has one.

I have this small one from a different company here it’s cheap.
The brand also has bigger ones (bigger means it will charge the device more times).

All you do for any of these is charge it at night, then keep it with you during the day along with the usb cord for your device. I actually bought a 3 inch cord to keep with it because its smaller but your normal cord is fine. Plug the phone into the charger and it charges it while in your bag or wherever you have it.

In general portable chargers are super valuable to those who use their devices a lot during the day (especially for GPS maps or camera, which eat battery power rapidly). Charging the phone/iPad at night isn’t sufficient to get through a day of even mild use on some phones. Then there’s the issue of a 12 hour plane ride with no power. I honestly wouldn’t travel without mine.

Um, USB devices don’t need power converters. The charger is rated 120-240 v, 50-60 Hz. The output voltage is always 5 volts. In short, the USB charging plug is a converter.

You only need a plug adapter.

BTW. Make sure your wall charger is rated at 2A or higher. Otherwise it will take forever for the powerbrick to charge.

The phones and 1A devices will auto detect the 2A charger and self regulate.

In short, you can use a 2-3 A charger on a phone but can’t use a 1 A charger on a device with a greater draw (like a tablet or power brick).

If you want to charge both devices at the same time you’ll need a dual port charger that can accept the draw from both devices. In this case a 1A phone + a 2A tablet = a 3A dual port wall charger.

I have to admit that the 10,000 mAh power core is a good charger.

I had a larger Anker that I accidentally blew up (brown power from a generator). Until then it was a good battery

I’m not a fan of the IQ auto shut off technology. The IQ couldn’t detect some of my less sophisticated devices and would perform an auto shut down without charging the device. With that said, you won’t have that problem with smart phones and tablets.

BTW, if you are ever worried about a power source then charge the power brick and then your phone off the brick. It’s far better to blow up the $40 brick instead of a $700 phone.

Hi Kathy H,
If you have multiple devices running USB charging, I recommend you choose multi USB charger. Charging them at the same time, save time. Anker 40W 5-port USB charger $23.99. Tattu 34W 4 ports wall charger $14.99. RAVpower 40W 4-port charger $15.99 and so on. You can search on google... Hope it can help you.

I just bought the myCharge Hub Plus (6700mAh) that comes with 2 built-in lightning cables and a USB port for my old iPhone 5s because the phone battery goes out quick now even with lots of apps cut off. This wasn't cheap ($80) but I like its small size and the convenience of putting it in my purse. They do make less expensive ones without the built-in lightning cables.
