iPhone eSIM can’t communicate with Android friends

Hi all! On my last three trips to Europe I have gotten a sim (now eSIM) through Orange. While it has worked beautifully for data and iMessage, I am completely unable to send/receive texts from my friends and family who use android devices, which is less than ideal. My home provider is unable to offer any international access at all (tiny Alaskan company), so I’m at a loss. The people at the Orange storefronts haven’t been able to help since I’ve bought French cards but haven’t been traveling in France recently. I’m sure this is solvable - does anyone know the solution? I’d love to send my family pictures from the holiday markets in Germany in a few months!

you will need a SIM (or e-) with included or chargeable calls and texts. Texts live on the phone network, not the data. iMessage is data driven, and data is data of course so it sounds to me like your Orange SIM is data only.

If you want to stick with what you have, get your Android friends on WhatsApp (you too). Using that app you can have voice calls, voice messages, video calls, video messages, photos, all in real time. No cost other than your data. If you and they are on wifi, no cost at all. Excellent quality, and end to end encrypted.
