How to make a call in Germany

Tomorrow I am leaving for Ireland then Germany. I have T-Mobile service and have a 10 day europe travel package where I have regular calling. So anyone calling me from the US just dials my regular number and it rings.

How do I make a call to Europe from this phone? I arrive late in Munich and the hotel told me to call them if I will be later than 9:30 PM. When I arrive at the Munich airport, if I have to call them, what do I actually dial? Their number is listed as +49 (0)8165 - 999 00. How do I dial this?? Pluses & brackets and hyphens have me confused.

Thank you for any help

If you're using your mobile, the easiest is just to dial it like you would if you were calling an international number from the US - take out brackets and hyphens, and the leading zero - so +49 8165 99900.

Plus is what you use on a mobile to dial an international number, because different countries use different codes to access international dialing (which in Germany is 00).

The hotel should list their number as +49 8165 - 999 00
Area codes are thing of the past, and I nowadays store all my phone numbers, even local ones, in international form in my phone.
So +xx-xxx-xxx-xx-xx
That way the number always works, regardless where I am.

Check to see if your phone has a setting to automatically format international numbers. On my Android Pixel phone it is called "assisted dialing." To make the plus sign on my phone I do a long press on the zero key.

Rick has a whole page in his guides about how to make phone calls. Because it's actually fairly complicated.

Just add the hotel to your contacts - add the country code, then the full number - then select the contact when you make the call - you don't need to tap numbers

M & S,

Google your hotel, tap the call icon and your phone will do the dialing for you.
