Does an Orange Holiday Europe SIM card have limitations on INCOMING international calls/texts

We plan to come to Italy and the UK this Fall for about 15 days....we'll need a couple of SIM cards and the Orange Holiday Europe 12GB plans look ideal. However, prior to buying, we need to know if the stated limits on OUTGOING international calls and texts also applies to INCOMING international ones.

Our son suffers from epilepsy and he routinely calls us once or twice a day to let us know how he's doing. If the same limits apply to INCOMING calls/texts, we'll exceed the card's restriction in just a couple of days. Sadly, the answer to our question is not on their FAQ page and, before one can to pose a non-FAQ question to the customer service, one must purchase the SIM card.

So, does any one know whether the limitations on OUTGOING calls/texts also applies to incoming ones....Many thanks for your assistance/insight to our little conundrum.

First time post so forgive me if I've trod on any of the protocols of Mr. Steve's site

I asked them a question just a week ago regarding an eSim, and I haven't purchased it yet. Where does it indicate that you have to purchase the card before asking? Defies good customer service ideals, if truee

Cheers,
Simon.

After scouring Orange's FAQ page and coming up empty I clicked on their "?" icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Up popped a new page (titled "contact us" & "contact form") but 2 of the mandatory entries on that page were:
----"Enter your order number starting with ORLTRVL", and
----"Your travel phone number or SIM ID".
I cannot provide that mandatory information without first purchasing the SIM card and every attempt to reach customer service led me back to that same page/URL address...and the roadblock imposed by those same two mandatory entries.

It would seem you found a page/URL address which allows one to ask a question prior to purchase...if you can, please share it.

We've used Orange for our past several trips, and are big fans. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question because we don't tend to get incoming texts and calls -- mostly because when you use Orange your phone then has a French phone number. Your old number will disappear with the removal of your "normal" SIM card (until you are back in the states and put it back in). So, you'll have a French number for calls and texts. That just seems like a lot for friends and family back home. And if your trip was long enough to merit multiple cards, the phone number would change each time.

You may know all this already, and everyone is fine with it. If not, have you looked into settling up a Google Voice number? Google assigns you a US number and people can call and text that. If you download the Google Voice app, you basically get calls and texts normally -- and people are using a "normal" US number. It has nothing to do with your Orange limits, as it all is over 5G or Wifi, depending on what you are on.

Anyway, as regular Orange users, that's become our workaround. Hopefully helpful...

Have used Orange Card several times in Europe the last two years and it is great. We always get the 14 day Holiday 12 GB eSIMs.
Here is a suggestion that will solve your situation… get WhatsApp on your phone, your son’s phone and anyone else in USA you may want to have contact with.
You use your US phone number and it works just like iMessage with ability to make video and audio phone calls plus messages which can include photos and videos. You can add all of your contacts or just who you prefer. It uses WiFi and Cellular. Try it out from home and you will see how easy it is. In fact, although we both have Orange eSims on our phones, we both just use WhatsApp to communicate with family back home.
Good luck!

That's the website I started on prior to seeking help here. The "Contact Us" icon opens a form which requires 2 pieces of information that are not available until you buy a SIM card ...i.e. your order number (starting with ORLTRVL) and your phone number or SIM ID#.

If you know of any contact portal that doesn't require to ask my (relatively) simple question, please post it at your convenience.

Thanks

I contacted them via email prior to purchasing. It was a year ago and I don't remember exactly how I contacted. But I asked the same question on two different occasions and they didn't answer my question instead giving me some canned answer. On the third try someone did actually respond to the question.

FYI --What I wanted to know was how they count the days of the plan. When you turn on your orange sim (upon arrival in destination country). The plan starts at that time on the first day and then covers in 24 hour increments. So If you turned your phone on at 2 pm, on day one, it expires at 2 pm on the last day. I was glad to find that day one doesn't end at midnight (like some transit passes). In my case I then had phone coverage if needed on the morning of the last day at hotel, airport.

The incoming international call should not count against your Orange international minutes. After all, the long distance toll charges are paid by the caller (your son) not you. However, that's just my opinion and I don't know that for a fact. If you find out, please let the rest of us know. Good luck.

The suggestion to set up WhatsApp on your son's phone and your phone is the better solution. That way, both of you can just use data. The 12 GB that comes with the Orange is probably more than you need. Also, you can take advantage of any free Wi-Fi. Your son would save on long distant toll charges. Plus you can also use video chat in WhatsApp which is always nice.

The direct email should work fine; no need to go through any contact page.

Well shucks...sometimes it takes one person to state the obvious before another person can see it.

Simon, I had previously used the text you gave me (contact@travel-orange.com) in a Google search. As mentioned I wound up at Orange's much maligned "Contact us" page. Your last post turned the light bulb on and this afternoon I used it as an e-mail address rather than a URL....voila, e-mail went through, Orange has acknowledged receipt of my question and...when I get an answer, I'll post it to the end of this string of comments.

Many thanks to all who offered their insights and suggestions...but especially to Simon for nudging me off my search engine and onto the address bar of my e-mail.

The question, once finally asked in the proper format, was answered very quickly. Turns out Orange does NOT count incoming international calls against the limits of it's SIM cards...they only count the minutes of outgoing international calls.

Thanks to the many kind souls who helped us get to that answer, as well as for the many suggestions of other ways we could "skin" the same cat.

Happy travels to all of you

Glen
