I saw this over on the TA Air Travel forum and thought it was very interesting. It may not affect a lot of people here who are committed to carry on, but many of us at least check baggage on the way back home.

I saw that story on the local news yesterday, and it looks like the new "chip" system will be a big improvement. It was reported that United and Alaska are also working on similar technology. Of course, those that don't use smart phones won't be able to take full advantage of this.

I think this is slightly different from what they've had before as it involves an RFID chip and, laughing, possibly more information than you would want to know about the location of your bag. The other baggage tracking Delta provided was associated with your baggage claim number as far as I could tell from my last trip in September and I didn't get the push notifications.
"So where has YOUR bag been?"
Hahaha...not as many places as it would like to go!
