We’re flying business class on SAS this summer. Can my husband use a CPAP during flight? They do have outlets available, and a few hours of good sleep (without the worry of bothering neighbors with the snoring) would be nice. There’s no recent info posted anywhere, so I’m wondering about personal experience. TIA!
I would contact SAS to confirm what is allowed. A quick google search seems to indicate he could use it, but the airline is going to have the final word on that.
I've never heard of an airline forbidding someone to use their CPAP. As long as there is an outlet available, he should be able to use it with no problem. But I did check and found this page that may be helpful. https://www.flysas.com/us-en/travel-info/special-travel-needs/health-medical/
Regardless, I would certainly notify SAS in advance and let them know that your husband is traveling with a CPAP in business class, just to be on the safe side. It might help as they may be able to make the process of using it in flight easier for you.
I've done a deep dive online, and things are very ambiguous. I've also tried calling the airline, but they're impossible to reach. I'll keep trying, but I was hoping someone could relay some personal experience. A CPAP is so common anymore. Hopefully I can get some concrete info.
Thanks so much!
Have you tried contacting them online? I would suggest going to the website, logging into your booking, and looking for a way to ask for assistance there. I'm able to do that with every other airline and I can't imagine SAS is any different. You could also go to their Customer Service page - https://www.flysas.com/us-en/customer-service - and see what avenues they have there. Even a Chat box can help (which SAS has - see above link) or if it can't, it can usually get you to a real person.
And FWIW, I would suggest contacting them over relying on someone here. According to the page I sent you earlier, if you need any special medical assistance, they tell you to contact them. So even if someone here says says it's okay, and you do not let them know that you need to plug in a CPAP, they may not have the resources to allow you to do that without notice. It's almost always better to go directly to the provider.
Thanks, but again, there is nothing online, no way to contact them other than a BOT, which does not give the information I need. We are seasoned travelers, and I understand it's best to go to the source, but this particular source is completely lacking. Maybe someone else will chime in with helpful advice. I sure appreciate all the time and effort!
fraubarr, not to beat a dead horse, but according to SAS, they have live agents you can chat with. See this link: https://www.flysas.com/en/help-and-contact/faq/travel-info/can-i-chat-with-your-customer-support/
LOL--I know. I did that, but it's a BOT, not a live person. I finally did get through to a live person per phone, but he really didn't know either, and there was no one available to elevate the question to. (He said I could try calling back on Monday, as there's a 10 hour time difference. (What?? I only have to chuckle at how difficult this is!) I'm not that worried about it--we can always purchase a battery pack, but they're very expensive.
Again, I appreciate your time. :-)

Pretty likely that the customer service is managed from Scandinavia which explains the time difference. It may seem difficult but the airline has the final word on the situation. Thankfully you aren't traveling in the very near term so you have time to sort it out. Good luck!
I know people who have used these in business class. I will warn you they often find the power does not work. I don’t know if enough about electrical to tell you why but they do say if you have a battery that works better than relying on seat power
We were on a Delta fight to Europe in 2022 and my husband used his without any problem.
I was recently on a flight from San Francisco to Munich sat next to a man who used his CPAP for just about the whole trip. He had a window seat and I had the aisle, fortunately the middle seat was free or it would have been cramped as he used the empty seat for his machine. That will not be an issue in Business class and your neighbors will appreciate it!
Thanks so much for the reassurance. It sounds as though a battery is the way to go, so we'll be investigating that next. We appreciate the confirmation!
