City Maps to Go app free this weekend

I checked but it still costs $5.99 in the Google app store.

I have the free version with ads already and it works to see street names. I'm not sure if there's any difference between the free and paid versions besides ads? Can you do turn by turn directions in the paid version?

Hmmm...maybe it's only free in the Apple app store....I've only had the paid version (which I got for free) so not sure of the diff from the free one...we haven't used it when driving - only use it for wandering cities...

Maybe they'll do Android next week, I'll check later. I like to have directions for walking, especially places with lots of alleys or difficult to find street signs.

Thanks Nicole! I just downloaded it on my iPhone. There were two choices, Maps2Go and Maps2Go Pro. I didn't know which one to choose so I chose the first but think I'll go back and download the Pro. Apple store didn't say it was free and didn't say there was a charge... So I don't know if I was charged anything or not. This app has been recommended to me by friends and I've been meaning to get it, so thank you!

For Apple users it is listed as free today in iTunes. I downloaded and opened it with no problems or obvious charges

I was looking at the regular one and then noticed the Pro version. When you open the Pro version in the iTunes store it shows $9.99 regular but free today, 12/17/16.

Thanks, Nicole. I just downloaded it from the Apple App Store. I used the free version in Dublin last fall and liked it very much. Was intending to buy the pro version before my upcoming trip to Rome and Sicily. You just saved me $9.99. That should buy me some gelato. 😋🍧

I installed it for free last night after seeing this thread. Thanks, Nicole! I downloaded my home state map, plus the Venice, Florence and Rome maps we might want to use next May. I'll spend some time playing with it at home, but I've seen some pretty enthusiastic recommendations here. I had hoped someone would put an iTunes gift card in my stocking so I could pick up this app. Now I have it whether Santa gives me the gift card or not. Cheers!

It is fun to play with. I love finding pastry shops and what not and 'starring' them on my map, so if I'm in an area, I can go by and see if it appeals. Some maps are very detailed - the one for Paris even had street numbers and the 'shapes' of the buildings when zoomed in!

A few times it saved us from walking the wrong way. Hubby is very good at map reading, but even he gets backwards at times. So we can walk a half block and see which way the dot is moving and figure if we are going the right way or not. Saved us in London and Rome from going the wrong way.
