City Maps 2Go and no data plan

I am thinking of useing Maps 2go for my trip to Greece and will not have a data plan. City Maps 2Go one feee map download and ten dollars for unlimited map download. R.S. book says it does not provide real time walking directions. Is this true?

Looking to put in Rick Steves’s walking tours into the app and hopefully getting me in the correct direction.

It does not provide walking directions. It shows you where you are on the map; it's up to you to figure out how to get where you want to go. That facility has been adequate for me. What I have not been happy about is the frequency with which the app doesn't recognize the name of the place I'm going or its address when I search for it, even in some cases when the destination is shown on the map if you know where to look.

I can't help but feel that there is at least one better option out there, probably more than one.

I downloaded a Google map of Florence and was able to use it without data. True, no step-by-step directions, but it showed my location on the map. It proved quite helpful several times. I also had a paper map just in case.

IDo you have an unlocked phone? SIM cards are generally relatively inexpensive in Europe. Google maps has been invaluable to us our last many trips in Europe.

I used maps.me (Free, including any map downloads) in Spain for both driving and walking instructions. I downloaded maps prior to my trip and pinned hotels and places I knew I was going to go. You can downloads maps while you travel as well, you just need to have wifi, like in your hotel. I have a Verizon cell plan and I set up my plan so for $10 a 24 hour period I can have data, IF I CHOOSE. Once you take your phone off airplane and use internet etc. the 24 hours starts. I ended up never using it because we were so satisfied with maps.me, and having wifi at our hotel and random other places was enough for us. We felt maps.me worked better than our Garmin.

@Tom, go to "Download maps" and there will be a list of your current maps. If you want to delete an entire country. Just swipe on it to the left and delete will show. If you only want to delete parts of the country, touch the country and all the maps for that country will appear. Again, just swipe to the left and delete will show. Slightly counter intuitive, I know.

For Maps.me is there a way to set up places you want to visit by each day. All I can see is a star button and that can be a lot of stars if you are staying more than one day. For City Maps 2 Go i use to be able to put a days itinerary one section of the app.
