Can I adjust forum font size?

Is it possible for me to increase the font size of the forum on my iPad mini? My Settings have Larger Accessibility Sizes enabled, which increases the font size on other sites, but doesn’t affect the RS Forum. According to my Settings, “Apps that support Dynamic Type will adjust to your preferred reading size above.”

Hi, I've walked through this on iOS devices. The short answer is "yes" with caveats. Allow me to clarify your options.

Your iPad's Accessibility -- Larger Text setting is specific to text sizes as rendered by any given app. Anything within the browser window (aka the part that isn't the address bar or the back/forward buttons) is rendered by the browser. Most modern websites, including ours, are designed to have variable text sizes to support different settings for different device sizes, or be flexible when a a Zoom setting is being used.

What you're looking for is this Zoom setting. While desktop browsers make this zoom setting easily adjustable via their Settings menu or quick functions on your keyboard (hold Ctrl and tap + or -) and mouse (hold Ctrl and use your mouse's scroll wheel), Safari on iOS devices makes this available primarily from the Reader view.

Reader view -- when available*** -- is accessed via the icon/button that looks like stacked horizontal lines. This button appears at the left side of your address bar (not to be confused with the similarly designed button on our mobile website). Once you've switched to a web page's Reader view, you'll see the Font Size icon/button at the other side of the address bar. Voila! There you have it. Here's a website that uses pictures to show how this is done: https://www.imore.com/how-use-reader-view-safari-iphone-and-ipad

***Reader view is only available on web pages that meet a certain content threshold. The way browsers determine this is complicated, but the simplest explanation is a page's content must surpass a certain (variable) character count. For example, many pages in our forum do meet this threshold until a few replies have been added. This very page did not meet that threshold when it only included Nancy's original post. Until Reader view becomes available for any page in our forum, your best way forward is to use your iOS device's pinching motion to zoom in and out of parts of the page as desired.

And now that I've said all that, I am seeing a bug in what renders in Reader view in our forum. (doh!) I'll get on that.

I just use the unpinch, using two fingers and spread them apart. Enlarges the whole forum page. There’s lots of empty space on the left so I can still see the whole post.

Thanks for your responses. I do use the unpinch method, but, then, I can’t read the whole line without scrolling back and forth. And, I see how to access the reader view, but it’s a laborious process since it looks as though you have to go through the whole process for each response. I was hoping there might be a setting to change the font size. First world problem, I know.😊

Have you already tried landscape orientation? Where your iPad is wider than it is tall? Works well on my non mini IPad.. YMMV.

I just tap twice in the body of text I’m wanting to read to make it bigger (I’m on iPad 6th generation, 9.7 inch). For me, that makes the text bigger, but the body of text is still all contained within the window (however, people's names/locations/time of post etc are off the left edge of the screen, but I can scroll over to look at them when I need).

I'm also definitely reading in horizontal position.

Kim, I was pretty excited at the thought of double tapping to increase the font size, but, sadly, it doesn’t work on my mini.

Rocket, you’re right, the landscape orientation does allow me to unpinch and increase the size. But, it’s less stable than the non-pinched type. Again, definitely a first world problem.

Rats!! I'm sorry it doesn't work for the mini!! I had hoped it would be an easy solution.
