Best Device for Internet, photos, etc

What would be a good device for podcasts, getting on the internet, etc. in Italy? I want something small and easy to carry and protect. What are some favorites and why?

blueokoboji,

i just got a Note 3 5.7 for my travels. Its more for my itinerary, some calls, checking emails and flights than entertainment. My entertainment comes from being over there and experiencing where im spending bucks to travel.

i chose it since it wasnt too large to carry on my body if i need to and its not too small like the newest iphone. Since i put all of my "my places" in google maps i want to be able to see where im going for each place. the 5.7 inch screen does a decent job of that. My note is also the 4G/LTE and wi-fi so i can use either if one isnt available.

one other thing i was looking for was to use this, if it works out, for many years since im not going to play the "buy the next best thing every year game".

other than that, that was my criteria.

happy trails.

I bring my iPad mini, and my iPhone. My iPhone for taking pictures, listening to R Steves audio podcasts, etc. My iPad for everything else.

I think the writer who mentioned trying to avoid buying something new all the time, is misguided. Even if you don't buy an iPad or something similar, there are always going to be changes in operating systems, etc. nothing lasts forever. On the other hand, I still have my original iPad, the one that first came out, and I use that at the gym to look at movies. So I guess you can keep something for quite some time!

@ Laura,

Yes, there will always be a new OS or something, but im not going to keep on buying a new e device every year or even 2 years. thats the game they want you to play. Its your $$$ so you can do as you please. Id rather spend my $$$ on my travels.

i know that if i keep my note for a long time, it may not be as fastest or the newest device, but that isnt the issue. its being able to use it as i need/want to that counts. as i stated that im not watching podcasts or movies or such, but looking at my maps, emails and travel itinerary on my travels. i dont use it as 99% of the people you see at work, school and walking around where they cant live with out it. I will do 100% of the work on my 2003/4 G4/1.25 ghz mirrored door Power Mac and then use the note only when i travel, that will be 1 month out of the year. I will power the note up every month or so just to update the apps i use and to make sure the battery is charged, but thats all i will use it for. I have been using the snot out of it as a shake down test, but that will end by the next month. Im still downloading/trying/deleting apps until i find what i like for what i need, but, again, that will stop by next month sometime.

happy trails.

Maybe. I bought myself a used car as a graduation present. I still have it.
