Apps for translations

Is Google Translate still the best app to use when in Italy?

Can't say about Italy, but it's what we use in France. We download the dictionary so we can use the app even when we're offline.

Within Google Translate, you can download the dictionary for any language so that you can use the app offline. It's called a language pack.

SayHi is a good app. Speak into it and it will translate to the language you select.

Google translate is great. Just remember:

  1. Use simple sentences. (Think second or third grade.)

  2. Don't use idioms.

Keep in mind that with the Google Translate APP you can point the camera at something, like a menu, and it will translate on the screen. Seriously. It works for road signs, menus, information signs (like tickets, museums, etc.), and guides.

I haven't tried the others but I like free google translate.

Thank you all for your replies. I am in Italy at the birthplace if my family. Visiting with cousins. I'm in Celenza val fortore puglia italy. The Google translate is the best. I typed about my famly and things they asked me about then translated to Italian so they could read it.
When they want to ask something they talk into it and it translates it into english. I could not have done it without this program.
After my trip here I will join a rick steves tour of southern italy.
