I just tried to get on this forum and got a Cloudflare verification request--- is this happening to anyone else?
Yep, I think it is a new addition in the never-ending battle with the bots.
Yes had it yesterday. I passed.
Yes- on Sunday evening (UK time)/afternoon (PT) there was an outage when they seem to have added this feature
I’ve gotten it a few times yesterday and today — and sometimes I haven’t gotten it. (Well to be honest, I didn’t get a Cloudflare verification request — i just got blocked with a big red X!)
If Cloudflare is the same as a photo of Rick lying on the floor spread eagle, then I had that happen yesterday.
Yes, I've been getting it off and on since Sunday afternoon, and occasionally only being able to get into the tour area and not the travel forum.
I had to go through a verification ( don't know if it was cloudflare-- didn't pay attention), but once i checked the 'I'm a person box' I got Rick with the "Dip in the road" sign and 'server error' and couldn't get to the forum for several hours.
Have not been challenged to prove my humanity since then
Figured they were using the weekend to install some 'defensive measures' and had some wrinkles that needed fixing.
Thx everyone for sharing experiences-- I've been through the same and it's been intermittent getting on the forum and travel area. I guess the RS organization uses Cloudflare for their cloud and has been impacted by the update. I'm hesitant to click on any links that look weird and I wasn't verifying myself in case it was malware if RS got hacked.
I also got this verification request. When in doubt, you can always message the forum Webmaster https://community.ricksteves.com/users/1000 or email [email protected] and include screen shots of what you're seeing. My experience is they are very helpful.

Are you confusing Cloudflare with Crowdstrike? It may have been a coincidence that RS planned the implementation of Cloudflare right after the Crowdstrike incident. Things were rocky on Sunday, but seems fine now - you may be asked to confirm you're not a robot when logging in to the forum to post.
Webmaster helped me out yesterday. There was a denial of service incident Sunday that necessitated turning up the security settings run by Cloudflare. Andrew and his team helped me get back on after being blocked for a while. I'm assuming things are pretty much back to normal today if you're not getting the check box to tick.
If you are getting a Cloudflare captcha prompt just check it and carry on. Nothing to worry about. Just Webmaster and the good folks in Edmonds keeping the site safe.
If you are blocked, you probably can't read this :) On the Cloudflare page there's a "Ray ID" number which you can send to Webmaster if you're able and he will see to it your service on ricksteves.com is restored.
It could've been crowdstrike-- duh-- I didn't pay attention-- I just closed it out! Whichever it was-- I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one!
