Airalo now has a plan with data, text, and calls

It's called Discover+. From this link, click the button to select Data/Calls/Text

https://www.airalo.com/global-esim

It's a global plan that works in 130 countries. You get a +43 number (that's the country code for Austria).

If you travel a lot, you can get plans that are good for as much as 365 days.

I've used Airalo data only plans, and they work well in most places I've been so far, though in Scotland, I encountered a lot of dead areas. I'll be eager to try this for my upcoming trip to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel.

Thanks for this, Lane ! I was looking for just such a solution for a friend Friday. Too late for her now, but I am glad to know they now have an option with calls and text.

Ooooh, this is great information - very useful for me! Thanks, Lane!

Edit: Looks like not much data with the calls and texts, but having the plans that last longer than 14 days is great! I could supplement with a data only plan for less money and toggle between the two as needed. :)

Lane, thanks! That's very good news to hear. I don't really need it now, since I switched to T-Mobile, but you never know!

melmay14, yes, it is - but it kind of depends on what you are comparing it to and your needs.

  • I tend to travel for more than 14 days, which was the longest you could get a plan that includes a phone number (until this). So to even have it available is a plus.
  • A physical sim is usually cheaper - but I won’t do that unless I have no choice. Just personal preference for not changing and retaining tiny pieces of cardboard.
  • It compares decently with the Holiday Orange plan for pricing - but lasts twice as long (I have not yet compared minutes). 30 days vs 14 days.
  • There is far less data included that the regional eSim and it would not be sufficient for me. So I will probably ALSO get a relatively inexpensive regional data plan for most of my use. On my phone it looks like I can have both and tell my phone which is primary for calls and which is primary for data.
  • And all of that is far cheaper than my AT&T plan would be. But I don’t need calls to and from my cell number when I am gone.
