Adapters in Italy

My husband and I are going to Rome in late June - early July this year. What is the specific adapter type that's needed? We will just be charging our Samsung cellphones - no hairdryers or curling irons, etc. Is it the "C" adapter? Thanks!

EDIT: I almost forgot it, but I also have a Garmin watch that I will charge a lot, too.

Yes, the type C adapter shown by Carrie will work in Italy. It has a non-grounding plug and it limited by code to 2.5a, but your charging devices draw far less than 2.5a. It also cannot carry a ground, so it should not be used with an American type B, three prong grounding plug. (You can plug a type B grounding plug into that adapter, but with that adapter, the grounding pin will be along side of the adapter, in the air, and will not be doing what it's supposed to do.)

Also, because that adapter has one blade slot at >5/32" width, it will accept an American "polarizing" plug, which is why the CE mark on the adapter is fake, do not use it unattended with a device, like a hair curler, with a polarizing plug. The polarizing plug, when plugged into a US polarized power source protects against a heating device being inadvertently turned on and possibly starting a fire. But, power on the European continent (except for Switzerland) is not specifically polarized, like US power, so that protection cannot be guaranteed.

If you use an appliance with a US polarizing plug, don't leave it plugged in when not attended or in use.

Same thing as I said about the previous recommended adapter, don't use it with a 3 prong, grounding plug and don't use it with a polarizing plug, or at least if you do anyway, don't leave it plugged in and unattended.

At least it doesn't have a phoney CE mark. But what does "EU" mean? (nothing)

Oh, just a caveat. I believe that a German or French Schuko plug has 4.8mm (0.189") diameter pins, which fit into No. European receptacles, whereas southern Europe country receptacles accept 4.0mm (0.157" diameter pins. So an adapter for No. Europe might not fit in a Southern Europe receptacle.

Type C plugs should have 4.0mm pins and fit in either No. Europe, Schuko, receptacles or So. Europe receptacles.

To check, compare the pins to drill bits. 0.157" (4.0mm) is almost a 5/32" bit and 0.189" (4.8mm) is almost a 3/16" bit.
