Will be arriving Zurich May 10 and looking to stay 3 nights in the Oberland Valley. However I am wondering if going directly to the mountains is not a good idea at this time of year. Am I better off staying in Lucerne.? Will the mountain villages be open and gondolas running? If staying in OBV where would you stay? Thanks in advance.

in a normal year you might have mud and slush at middle altitudes but this isn't a normal year. In many places in the Berner Oberland this year there is no snow - there is a current thread running that has photos.
Where we will by May nobody knows - I'm not a gambling man. Could be Buffalo deep or what it is now....
