We leave for Paris June 21 and discovered that my passport name says Sandra and the ticket says Sandy. We've been advised by Air Canada that we need to rebook the whole trip (We fly air canada to Montreal from Chicago and then on to Paris. Our return flight is Swiss air out of Zurich. There is a $50 processing fee per ticket and then Air Canada refunds us the money from the purchased ticket. My problem is that we paid $700 for a round trip ticket to Europe and back 5 months ago. Those tickets have doubled in price. Does anyone have ideas on how to do this the cheapest way possible? My thoughts were to try and change my passport and have it expedited. Or arrive at the airport really early and try to change it at the ticket counter and then I would have to try and contact swiss air as well. Help!
Which is your legal name? I would not try to get the passport changed unless the passport is wrong.
My next advice is to try again calling the airline and talking with a different person. See some similar recent discussion at https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/transportation/middle-name-listed-twice-on-ticket (with reference to at least one more previous thread).
