Murren status

Has anyone been to Murren recently? Would love to hear how construction is going, if it's loud/disruptive, etc. Debating if we should just base ourselves in Wengen if so.

We stayed in Wengen and we’re so sad to leave after 6 days.
We walked through Murren and I didn’t notice lots of construction sound issues, but the tram is currently down making access a little more challenging (just slightly by an extra cable car ride or two) to get around.
I found Wengen to have more options and a better view. I know there is a hot debate on here about which is everyone’s favorite and Murren has a huge fan base.
But, for me, Wengen all the way.

Hey- Just starting to look at Wengen and would love to know what you did while there! We love hiking and the mountains, and I'm a landscape photographer and would love to shoot there. Any recommendation on lodging? It's me and my husband (both in our 60's and in fairly good shape) Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up - I just booked 4 days at Hotel Alpenruh for mid-September. Will take a look at the links provided and may make a change.

We were Murren in later May and stayed at the Hotel Alpenrue. 2nd time and love this hotel but the noise from the construction was bad. They started at 7:00 am and didn’t quit until 7:00. We have noise canceling earphones which saved us. And we spent most of our time away or out on the deck of the Edelweiss.

The views from Murren are unbelievable.

The construction traffic up and down the Main street goes on ALL day. For a town with no vehicle traffic it is a real annoyance to have construction traffic all day.

We were in Murren the last week in June. As we walked through the town and saw and heard all the construction, we were very happy with our choice in Wengen. If you want to sit on your balcony and enjoy the view peacefully, Murren wouldn’t be my choice until the construction ends (another year?)

We were in Murren over the weekend around the first of July, arriving Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday morning. We stayed at the Hotel Alpenruh near the cable car construction site. There was no construction activity whatsoever during our visit, and we had a great time. Based on our experience and comments from others, it seems like construction is a problem on weekdays but not on the weekend. If you can time your visit for the weekend, you should be ok.

I would like to visit Murren from Wengen. I am wondering how long it takes and which cable cars are not operating.

garftrkg You should really start a new thread so the answers come to you not to the OP on an unrelated topic.

garftrkg, it is about 38 – 46 minutes, depending on the timing of your arrival down to Lauterbrunnen and then waiting for the cable car.

What dates are you looking at so I can check for closures? Looks like it will be running from now until Oct. 2. Then starts again on Nov. 18th.
