Itinerary help

Hello, I am planning on an August 2 arrival and staying until the 9th. I am traveling with my husband and three children (12, 14, 16). We have enlisted some help from a travel agent for hotels and car transfers from the airport. We plan to visit and explore the Jungfrau region as well as places around Lucerne. We would like a combo of fun adventure and experiences (ie chocolate making/cheese experiences) etc.

Would you recommend we stay in 2 hotels (1 in each region) or stay in 1 and travel?

Also, Is doing Top of Europe, Grindelwald First, Lauterbrunnen, and Schilthorn too much for 3 days? Are any so similar that we should choose?

Thanks!!! Lisa

and car transfers from the airport.

Why do you need car transfers? I assume you are traveling by train between Luzern and Berner Oberland. There is a train station at the airport to take you to your first destination.
Yes, two hotel locations would be best.

Don’t do car transfers, just use the train at the airport. Go from the airport to Wengen or Grindelwald for 4-5 nights and end in Luzern for 2-3 nights and go to the airport from there.

Depending on where you stay in the Jungfrau Region will determine how you combine activities, but yes you can do your list in around 3 days.

You need to get lodging ASAP. You’re coming at the height of high season and a lot will already be booked.

Did your travel agent explain about transport passes, especially the options that cover the 2 younger children for free on all lifts and trains?

I see your planning is evolving, and I think two locations will serve you nicely. Not sure why a travel agent would recommend car service, since the Swiss have a world- class rail system. Make sure this travel agent really knows the area.

Definitely stay IN the Alps, in Murren , Wengen, or even Lauterbrunen. Book directly with the lodging for best prices. Your group of five will be a little hard to accommodate , so if you find a great place, book asap, as you're a bit late to secure lodging for summer.

That being said, you all will have a great trip in this beautiful country. The cogwheel trains, gondolas, cable cars, parasailing etc give Disney- like adventure experiences in the real world. Weather is always a factor in the Alps, so you may not get to all the summits that are in your plans. If you have a clear day, go for it, as the next day could be very different.

In Lucerne, I love the open air Cabrio cable car at Mt Stanserhorn. Since it's not in the RS Guide, this doesn't get much press here, but the open air experience is a thrill. Go up for the sunset, it's 45 minutes from Lucerne to the summit (train, cogwheel, and cable car journey.)

If you have the STP, both Mt Rigi and Mt Stanserhorn trips are completely covered. Folks ask if they should explore the summits around Lucerne if they are going to the BO? My answer is yes, as each peak has its own personality and vistas, and you never know when the weather turns , so if you have a beautiful day, maximize your mountain opportunities.

Have a memorable trip!
