Teens in Switzerland

I am traveling with my 3 teens (12, 14,16? This summer. We are staying in Lucerne for 7 days and plan to do day trips. Can anyone make some recommendations of places we should hit and things we should do. Kids like to be active but not like 6 hour hike active. They like small hikes, bike rides and some thrill seeking (moderately). We are not interested in church tours.

Thanks so much!

Edited to correct typo of location we are staying

What is Lavern? There is a typo there. Could be Luzern, could be Lavaux...

Thank you! We have a day that we are scheduled to go to Mt. Pilatus so this is a great recommendation for us!

Our plans also have us going to Lauterbrunnen & Murren for a day and a full day on Jungfraujoch. Any recommendations for these would also be appreciated.

I have read about Grindewald First (not sure the spelling). Would that be similar to the action park activities on Mt. Pilatus?

Thanks again!

Not the same. Fräkműntegg has the ropes courses and maybe a short zip line (not sure about that). Grindelwald First has 2 long zip-lines of different types, the Mountain Carts, and Trottibikes.

My sons, nephews, and now grandkids have all really enjoyed the TrottiBikes.

Take a close look at train times to see how long it would take to get to Jungfraujoch as a day trip and how much time you'd have there. Personally, I'd rather do the Schilthorn while passing through Mürren and Lauterbrunnen, than Jungfraujoch. But I know thats a bucket list thing for many.

The Trummelbach Falls might be of interest (they're inside the mountain, which is unique) , about a 45 minute flat walk from Lauterbrunnen. In Luzern, take a cruise on the lake, or ferry to hop around the lake towns.

You know about the Swiss Travel Pass with free Family Card, right? The 2 younger teens will travel for free everywhere you go, including the lifts that the adults (and 16-year-old) will have to pay 50% for.

Thank you for all of this! Does anyone have any thoughts on bike tours through Lauterbrunnen? What is best to do in Lauterbrunnen and Murran? Again keeping the teens in mind. Thank you!

A very nice bike tour you can do yourselves. Rent equipment in town and bike toward Stechelberg and back, an easy 3-ish miles each way. (Lunch in the garden at Hotel Stechelberg is nice.)

For another tour out of Lauterbrunnen, look for the path out of town behind the train station and ride along the river as far as you want: Zweilutschinen, Wilderswil, or Interlaken. Take the train back (or ride if you have the energy!). The only caution I would give is that there is a set of rough stairs in the woods near the start and you have to dismount to get down to the river. You can also take the train to Zweilutschinen, Interlaken, or Wilderswil and start your ride there. Pizza in Wilderswil at Luna Piccante is excellent, BTW.

You can ride, I think all the way to Grindelwald. Best to check locally on that.

There are also mountain bike trails. One I know of (and know that I am not a cycler but a hiker) is between Grütschalp and Mürren more or less the route of the Mountain View Trail.

Bike rental source here https://lauterbrunnen.swiss/en/discover/shopping-and-rental.html?filter_categories_1673%5B%5D=lauterbrunnen_rental. The Tourism Office In Lauterbrunnen covers Lauterbrunne, Stechelberg and Mürren. They will have info on guided biking tours.

Google "Grandmothers Walk" and "Grandfathers walk" for spectacular but easy hikes in the Berner Oberland.
Interlaken offers paragliding.
Grindelwald-First has a cliff walk and a launched Boomerang type thing.
This would be a full day of activity to get there and back.

Thank you all! One more question. What “activities” would you recommend we should we do on jungfraujoch?

Is that worth the time? Again traveling with 3 tween/teens. I know we have to do Grindelwald First for a day also.
