We will be in the lauterbrunnen valley for 8 nights end of June beginning of July. Any hidden gem accommodations that give great views , but doesn’t break the bank? Need a private bathroom and a balcony would be great. Don’t mind switching to a different hotel if one accommodation is not available for all 8 nights. It could be wildersill, murren, Wengen, gimmelwald, lauterbrunnen town, or anything close to transportation. Prefer none city feel. Thanks.
I'm afraid any perfect hidden gems that are moderately priced have been fully booked since last September. Switzerland is an expensive country, and the exchange with the chf is not in our favor.
You leave out many details- how many folks, can you carry your own luggage up stairs, do you want breakfast, etc.
Also-
What breaks my bank may not break yours, so please be specific in per night costs.
You were given several options back in January when you posted earlier. Perhaps you could share why none of them met your needs, to further detail your expectations.
The BO is one of the most beautiful areas in the world, and I'm so happy you get 8 nights there. You're in for a treat. Safe travels!
We (family of 6) stayed in two apartments in Chalet Gerbera in Wengen in summer 2023 and LOVED it. The views are spectacular. It’s a bit of a walk back up the hill into town, or you can walk downhill about 5 minutes and take the train up. Very affordable for a 2 bedroom with full kitchen.
The same chalet has a 1 bedroom unit on the ground floor.
Switzerland’s a hot destination this summer and I agree with Pat that, unfortunately , you’ve waited too long to find a room with a view for 8 successive nights in Lauterbrunnen. The Hotel Staubbach has availability for some late June dates. You may have to split your time between two different properties in Lauterbrunnen and Murren/Wengen/Gimmelwald and even Grindelwald. What remains is running $400-$600 per night. Check www.Booking.com. You also can check the local tourist office website for holiday apartments listed there. www.Lauterbrunnen.swiss
Here is more info that I should have included. Two people. My wife and I are 69 and 71 and in good shape. No problem carrying luggage up stairs. Breakfast would be good but not crucial. Would prefer 250 USD per night or less but could go up higher to around 350-400 if no other choice. Didn’t take previous recommendations because our dates of travel kept changing. Now we have our flights set and can finally make some definite plans. We do have a reservation for all nights , except our final night (near airport in Zurich), aiger studio in Wengen. They have very nice refund policy should we find something better. We grabbed ES because as you pointed out, hotels are getting filled quick;y.
Thanks for everyone who has been kind enough to respond. We will keep searching. But at least we have something at this point. Any recommendations for, hotel in Zurich for the night before we fly back? Do Zurich hotels have airport shuttles? Thanks again
We loved Chalet Fontana in Murren. Get the second floor room with a view of the Eiger/Monch/Jungfrau.
Hotels in downtown Zurich do not have airport shuttles because the train is so convenient—-just a 12-minute ride to the airport from the Hauptbahnhof. There are a number of them within a 5 to 10-minute walk of the station. We like the Hotel Zuercherhof, a Best Western on the street leading to the Oldtown area (Zahringerstrasse). There are others in a row along there. Just cross the bridge over the river from the front of the train station. Or pick one on the same side of the river as the station if you prefer.
Have you considered glamping? Here is one place with cabins, some of which have private baths. https://www.campingjungfrau.swiss/en/summer/accommodation-listing
You can stay in Lucern the night before your flight, if your flight isn't too early. Lucerne is much more charming, and is an easy 1+ hour commute to the airport . The train goes directly into the Zurich airport.
We like Hotel des Alpes in Lucern, ask for a room with a view of the Chapel Bridge.
As for Zurich , I agree with the others, stay in the Old Town. There's actually a high rise Marriott with a fantastic view of the river and town, a10-15 minute walk to the train station. I bring this up because many folks have Marriott points to redeem for free nights.
Enjoy your trip. Safe travels!
