Hi there. I have made plans to spend the last two days of our Swiss holiday in Luzern. Our flight to Canada leaves Zurich at 1:15 on Saturday afternoon, so I was thinking we would just take the train from Luzern to Zurich airport on Saturday morning since I am not really interested in Zurich. Do you think this plan is okay, or should we spend our last night in Zurich “to be safe”??

There are direct trains from Luzern to Zurich airport and it only takes a little over an hour.
You will get responses both ways. Personally, I would risk it for the short trip but would keep my eye out for any possible disruptions. I'd also have a plan B.
I would definitely stay in Luzern as it’s so easy to take the train from there to right inside the airport. I have done this multiple times and I time my train departure from Luzern with an option that will get me to the airport about 3 hours before my flight.
As the Swiss trains don’t strike, the only disruption I can think of would be construction on the train tracks. There is work planned for next year, but it only involves a change of trains on the way to the airport.
This will be noted when you check times on SBB.
A flight at 1.15 gives you plenty of time to get to the airport: the train from Luzern takes about 1.15 hours. I would sleep in Luzern!

We did that on one of our trips. No problems. Stayed in Luzern and took the train.
