I'm looking forward to a long awaited return visit to Wengen and Murren in late August. I have many hikes planned. I have seen a few accommodations recommended in the past on this forum such as the Hotel Bellevue in Murren. Any other suggestions? A comfortable yet quiet single room is adequate.

Hi Rhonda,
Another person very recently asked a similar question. Here’s the lodging responses. Hope that helps; gorgeous area!
In Murren, we absolutely loved Chalet Fontana (http://www.ferntree.ch/chalet/fontana.htm). Kind of a B&B vibe, with a host that makes breakfast and gives great information. Awesome view of the Eiger/Monch/Jungfrau.
Thank you for bringing my attention to these previous posts.
I think it depends on your budget. We have been to the BO 4 times and have always stayed at Hotel Schönegg in Wengen. It is not cheap. But the hotel itself, the staff, the food (!), the views, the location are all excellent. We always get half board so we have breakfast in the morning and then after a long day of hiking some fine wine and dining in the evening. We picnic on the trails for lunch. You can buy food in the grocery stores or you can get great sandwiches from the bakery (was new place to us last year) which we loved. But Schönegg is not cheap, so check your budget and then maybe folks can help you more. For us, it’s worth every penny and absolutely fantastic staff.
I got a great deal (for Switzerland) on my room for hotel schonegg this June—786CHF for 5 nights. The key is to book early. I booked my room in Oct. I’m not doing the half board. Dinner is too late for me. I like to eat my big meal in the afternoon. 😊
Rhonda I'm usually quiet about it, but having visited the Alps 8 times now, and Switzerland 4 times, I will share with you, and only you, my secret for getting a good price on a reasonable place to stay, particularrly anywhere there are a lot of chalet-type apartments. Search and/or send inquiries through the website of the local tourist office. The reason for this is that many of the ferienwohnung (holiday apartments) in these areas are owned by older people and/or locals who live in the building. Many of them have no desire whatsoever to list on Airbnb, VRBO, Booking or whatever. They have a regular set of year in year out renters, and then they list on the site of the local tourist office, and that's it.
Often their rates are significantly lower than places that show up on global search sites, and the quality of the accommodation is nearly always wonderful. These are older Alpine people - it will be clean, it will be comfortable, you will be treated kindly.
Again, just between you and me ;)
Such a great idea!! Thanks for the share!

My wife and I have stayed at the Alpenrose in Wengen several times. She first stayed there with her family as a young girl. We love the owners and their family, the food is good, and the rooms are very comfortable. We travel a lot, but Wengen is one of our favorite places on earth — and every time we go, we stay at the Alpenrose..
Thank you for the Hotel Alpen Rose recommendation in Wengen.
We went to Murren in 2012 and stayed at Chalet Fontana. It was a great place to stay with. Our hostess was great and Murren is so close to Lauterbrunnen and great hikes further up the mountain.
Thank you for the Chalet Fontana recommendation. I have heard this recommendation more than a few times. One to consider.
