We're booking an Ama Waterways cruise that ends in Vega de Terron. We've always wanted to visit Bilbao and would appreciate your suggestions of the best ways to get there. Thanks!
That’s a tough one— Vega de Terron is… kind of remote. Does AMA offer direct transfer to a city from which you’d have more options for trains or flights—Lisbon, Madrid, or even Porto?
See this thread from last year-
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/spain/getting-from-salamanca-to-vega-de-terron
But yes, surely the Cruise company provide transport to probably Salamanca
In the UK market (I don't know about the US market) AMA provide an option to book this with a 3 night pre cruise extension in Lisbon and a 3 night post cruise extension in Madrid- that transfer post cruise includes a day tour to Salamanca on route. That is a further £1,384 for the 6 nights.
Might it be worth going back to AMA and seeing if you can add on the extensions, or at least somehow pay for a seat on their bus to Madrid?
Check CaminoFacil. They drive us from Pamplona to St Jean Pied de Port and from Leon to Sarria.
You could also try DayTrip. It's a third-party booking platform that allows travelers who need intercity transportation to connect with transportation providers.
Thank you everyone! AMA confirmed that Vega de Terron is very remote so, after trying your suggestions, I think the best way is to take their transfer to Madrid and then fly to Bilbao.
Try Blabla car. We have used it in France, Spain and Austria.
I would take the transfer to Madrid and then bus or train to Bilbao, cheap, safe, very clean, modern, efficien mass transport system all over Spain. BlaBla car will not offer much availability from that tiny and remote area.
