Dali Museum and house tour

Has anyone taken a day trip to the Dali Museum and his house from Barcelona? We will be there in October and thought a bus tour might be good but we could also do it on our own via public transportation. What would you recommend?

Important....the two are NOT in the same location, fairly close, but not the same.
The house tour requires an admission ticket with a specified time..they are strict in enforcing the time. Well worth the time to visit, literally on the edge of the water, and the interior is fascinating.

The museum has an admission ticket, but I recall you can purchase it there as you enter. Not sure about public transportation to the house, but it is available for the museum. Might want to rent a car, the drive from Barcelona goes along the coast and the old olive groves on the mountains, planted I think by the Romans...fantastic scenery, but a twisting road.

To see both the Museum and the House is NOT a day trip from Barcelona, not one you would enjoy anyhow. Going to Figueres early, seeing the museum then taking the bus to Cadaques (the Dali house is in Port Lligat, which is just a village), sleeping in Cadaques returning to Barcelona next day would be doable. We were coming from Paris, spent the night in Figueres, saw the museum in the morning. Took the bus to Cadaques in the afternoon. Next morning we walked over to Port Lligat, did the house tour, walked back to Cadaques. Next morning we took the early bus to Figueres, caught the local train to Barcelona. Really nice. BTW, if you like Dali, both the museum and the house are very cool.
