It is my understanding that if you booked a flight prior to May 31, 2020 and are scheduled to fly before September 30th 2020 you can cancel at no fee but must rebook to travel before December 31st 2021.
In other words, you have 2020 and 2021 to use the voucher at no fee.
It’s a little confusing on their website, but this is my interpretation.
Appreciate your interpretation please.

Correct - with the addition that you do have to pay any increase in ticket price,
I booked a trip to Maui in late July when this rebooking policy was announced. We will use the tickets sometime before the end of 2021. Plus the airfare was 50% cheaper than normal.
Yes. I’m in the same boat. I booked Spain tickets in Nov 2019. Cancelled, have a credit until end of 2021. I hope things improve by summer ‘21.
AA changed the itinerary but provided an option to cancel. Got the notice through Expedia which stated that a refund was an option. I cancelled and received a refund in the form of a credit to the cc that I used. Now I have to figure out how to get cash from the cc as part of the refund was for someone else’s ticket.

Called my cc company about my large negative balance resulting from the refund from AA for my cancelled trip. Requested cash instead of the credit shown. No problem, they are sending a check. Cc is Citibank double cash.
