Trying to pack a trip to visit Bratislava then on to Kosice/Presov with a quick ancestral tour to Petrova, then on to Bardejov into 2 layovers. Any advice? Can it be done with public transportation or should we hire a driver? (can you recommend a driver) I am concerned about the 4 1/2 hour drive from Bratislava to Kosice taking up so much valuable time. Are we overdoing it?? Thanks.
First check the train schedules, then the bus schedules, then the DayTrip.com cost.
Thanks for taking time to reply. Appreciate your input.
Are you going back to Bratislava? It is a long drive. The train might be better and then rent a car in Kocsice and take the train back. There are however many wonderful stops on the way if you do decide to drive it rent at Bratislava airport. I have found Budget to be a good deal. It's very easy to get around in Slovakia.

I wasnt much help.
I am looking to maybe go through Slovakia in the late Spring or early Summer. The trip is to reach Zakopane for fishing. I would start from my home in Budapest. I am lucky that way, cause Bratislava is just not a WOW! place for me. Did the requisite visit last year.
My trip idea probably doesnt overlap with what you are thinking at all, but getting arond Slovakia is always a chore unless you rent a car and I as a matter of principal refuse to drive. So maybe something in this will have some value for you: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/slovakia-or-slovenia-the-same-right-in-may-which-do-i-do I will have to tell you that all of the destinations except Zakopane I have been to before, some twice. I do love Slovakia outside of Bratislava.
We went to Zakopane last year for just a day. Beautiful area nestled in the mountains. The downtown is tourist oriented. Its where the Polish go to vacation. We had a great lunch and walked around and shopped. I would recommend a couple of days there. We plan to go back.
There are hourly trains from Bratislava to Kosice, €25 for 2nd class and €33 for a first class ticket. https://www.seat61.com/international-trains/trains-from-Bratislava.htm#journeys_within_Slovakia
