Slovakia or Slovenia (the same right?) In May. Which do I do.

I have another thread on Slovnia but I was having trouble getting excited about the trip. So how about Slovakia? Or maybe I am wrong about Slovenia and I just havent done enough homework yet? Anyway, two trips. Any and all input on either is appreciated. And I could always do one in the Spring and one in the Fall. The advantage of living close.

I'm a train fan, but the Slovenian railway has infrequent departures and schedule.
However the bus system is excellent, lots of departure/return, clean, inexpensive, nice drivers. I took the bus to Lake Bled and also Bohinj and it worked very well.
I was in Slovenia last June, loved Ljubljana, the Lakes, the people, good food, wonderful people.

The train there was a bit problematic, but I have the train back. And on the way up I get to stop in Maribor which for some reason has interested me for years. Thanks for the insight.

I was somewhat interested in Maribor but knew that I was going to Austria this May, since I will spend some time in Graz it's a easy and short trip to Maribor from there. I was able to do everything in Slovenia that I wanted to do; it's a small country.

I want to see Graz but i will do that with one MAVs historic trains. They generally make the trip once or twice a year. Sometimes steam, sometimes just nice period cars with dinner etc

Both would be great for your purposes. But I vote for Plan A because you have never been. Which probably means you will choose B.
