Tickets for Monastery of Jeronimos

BLUF: Can anyone tell me how to buy tickets online for the Monastery?

The RS Portugal guidebook says that tickets are available online but the website in the book is redirected to https://www.patrimoniocultural.gov.pt/publicacao/mosteiro-dos-jeronimos/ which does not have tickets, or really any info on the monastery.

I know that the Lisbon Card offers free entry but it also seems that you need to stand in the ticket line anyway.

I assumed until now that this would not be a big deal as in my past visit to Lisbon during the off season (do off seasons even exist anymore?) nothing was terribly busy or with long lines. Unfortunately my sister is there today and waited an hour to get in. I am obviously hoping to avoid this when I visit next month.

Any advice?

Hi,
I noticed the monastery opens at 9:30am but the first ticket starts at 9am. Should I get 9:30am or does it not matter? Thanks!

In case there are lingering questions about how the Lisboa Card works for the Monastery of Jeronimos, I received this response from the contact email address listed on the monument's official website. Bottom line, you do not need to exchange your Lisboa Card for a ticket; just line up in the entrance queue. Whether or not there is a separate queue for Lisboa Card holders as I've seen suggested elsewhere, I don't know, but it should be obvious when you arrive. Also, I assume the same applies to the tower entrance.

"The Jerónimos Monastery opens for visits at 9:30 am. Lisboa Card holders take their place in the queue, however it is not necessary to collect a ticket in advance. Best regards, Luís Silva Técnico Superior (Luís Manuel Neto Ferreira da Silva
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos e Torre de Belém)"

This is different than the RS 12th edition (Jan 2023) guide book. Not sure why it hasn't been updated since a post four years ago reported similar information.

I was in Lisbon last month (March 2024) and used the Lisbon card for entry to the monastery. You do not need to stand in the ticket line, but you do need to stand in the line to enter. All you do is show your Lisbon card. There is only one line; no separate line for Lisbon card holders. I arrived at 8:55 for the 9:30 opening and was first in line. The line quickly grew longer.

If you show up without a ticket or the Lisbon card, you will need to wait in two lines—the ticket line and the line to enter. I would avoid doing this.

While we had tickets ahead, the line was easily 200 people long and I witnessed no movement. We walked on by. Also had tickets to the nautical museum, which is in a wing of the monastery, and walked right in for a wonderful experience.

Hi,

Just wanted to give you a quick update that our family had a great time at Jerónimos monastery. We got there by 9am and by 0930am as mentioned by everyone, the line was getting super long. We were done by 1-1.5 hours, got our brunch, got the egg tarts with Starbucks coffee next door, and enjoyed the great view walking near MAAT and the Ponte 25 De Abril(except that we had to crawl while crossing the pedestrian flyover due to fear of heights though).
