Looking to plan a week in Portugal for college friends. We have kids in college so I don’t want to break the bank. I have been there before (Cascais,Lisbon,Sintra) for a business trip but will be first time for others. Looking for itinerary ideas … probably flying into Lisbon. Or Porto. We are all active and can walk/hike extended periods, enjoy wine, food, architecture and history.
Any ideas are welcome… I’ve been looking at prepackaged but I think the cost, pace and freedoms of do it yourself is for me. Thank you!!! Time of year is flexible May-October
My wife and I spent 10 days there last Fall with another couple (we all turned 60 last year). 5 days in Lisbon, 4 days Porto and a drive in between the two. Here's my Trip Report that may be helpful. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/trip-report-part-1-hills-and-castles-portugal
I loved Lisbon. There are four different routes for the hop on hop off buses if that might be your thing.
Of course, you probably want to spend a day at Sintra and one at Belem. You can get to both using public transportation.
I was on a cruise and we ported in Porto but I took an excursion to Braga which was very beautiful and interesting.
Wow thanks so much for the helpful ideas and trip reports. This group never disappoints :)
