Input regarding Katowice area

I might be visiting the Katowice area next year and am interested if anyone on this forum has any knowledge of this area, specifically Bytom and Sosnowiec. I'm not interested in sightseeing but want to into family history and visit cemeteries etc. I'm trying to track down what happened to family who lived here. Specifically wish to know if these areas are safe for a solo female to walk around on foot. I would likely fly into Katowice if I can get a flight there. I would take a bus to Bytom, assuming it's available. Any information is appreciated.

Hi, I've traveled through that area a few times, most recently this past summer, it is an underrated gem with many things to do and see and virtually unknown to foreign tourists. I also have friends in Sosnowiec, which I have also visited. The area is safe, I've never had any issues, I saw single women, families, kids all out and about at all times of the day and night with no problems. Poland is generally much safer than Western Europe and even more so than the USA.

Here is my trip report of my recent travels in the Katowice area (Upper Silesia). If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to help!
