Wheel covers for rolling carry ons

Any suggestions re what to look for? Most of the items on sites like Amazon have fewer than 10 reviews.We will be traveling in places with cobblestones.

I'm not sure what a wheel cover is? Is it to protect things from the dirt on your wheels or to protect your wheels from the dirt outside? Or to help it to roll over cobbles?

They slip over the existing suitcase wheels to protect them from scratches or gouges due to rough surfaces. They won't prevent the wheel from breaking or snapping off due to rough handling.

I had to look them up, too, Pam! For all of our trips, I’d never heard of them.

Some of the reviews mention that the covers pick up more dirt & hair - probably from the static and/or embossed designs in the covers. So it sounds like they’re intended to lessen the scratch marks on wheels. If you have a 2-wheel suitcase, you probably don’t need them.

Be sure to test them out on carpet, outside on sidewalks, wood floors, etc. They may create more drag which you definitely do not want when traveling.

I Googled "luggage wheel protector covers" and got many results, starting with ones on Amazon. There are different treads, sizes and materials, but all seem to be designed to protect the wheels. I limited by "☆☆☆☆ & up" and left the sort at "featured" to keep the emphasis on the covers. I didn't check the Prime box.

One brand, Uinehuine had sold 1000+ units in the past month and had 229 reviews. All the others on the first page of results had less than 20 reviews and most were below the label: New Arrivals which are "based on items added in the last 60 days." It looks like this is a new product with one company getting the jump in the market, hence the paucity of reviews for the others.

P.S. I love all the fun colors.

Thanks for asking this question. I have no bag with double wheels. The wheels on the 2-wheeled Osprey and Eagle Creek bags I use are large, black and heavy duty. They could use some colorful shoes. 😉

Can I get some studded snow tires for my rolling bag? (I promise to take them off from April to November.)

I had a friend use them recently on a trip to London and they kept coming off. Very inconvenient. I don’t know what brand they were, though - as with most things, I am sure it makes a difference.

@David....hahaha!!!

@Jean....I thought the same! We've got a wide variety of travelers and no one has mentioned them. We'll need to talk about them next meet up.

@lyceemoliere - You'll have to be the lead on this! We expect you to report back your experience.

I saw these on Amazon. I think they're also supposed to help the wheels be a little quieter when rolling? I liked the fun colors, which would make it easier to recognize your suitcase if checked, which I will probably do. I'm still thinking buying some for my upcoming trip to London, so will follow this post. Good idea from the previous poster who said to test them out on different surfaces.
