I'm always looking for a new bag... I saw how much Sarah Murdoch packed in this little bag (her video), but I was wondering if it would hold a small DSLR with a short lens; i.e., 50 mm? It is a Canon EOS, not a full frame camera. Has anyone ever tried to carry one in it? Thanks, Wray
While I have not carried a DSLR in mine, it does expand and just might fit the bill. I can pack all kinds of things in it, including my point-and-shoot, iPad mini, sunglasses, guidebook and various other "necessities"! Somewhere in the All Topics postings just recently is a topic on the Veloce bag. Hopefully, someone who has actually carried the DSLR in one will chime it.
Thanks Andi. I saw that post but didn't want to hijack it and I haven't seen, yet, a mention of including a DSLR. I really don't need it but I have that $100.00 coupon from RS to spend soon. And the lighter and smaller I can get for my 'purse' the better. Wray
Actually, I looked at the item online again. The video makes it look as if only the top expands so I was more worried about fit. However, if I magnify one of the single photographs it looks as if the bottom of the bag expands as well. Would someone confirm that the entire bag expands by another 1 1/2 inches? Thanks, Wray
EDITED
I have the Veloce Guide bag, it does fully expand.
Ok, the Veloce Shoulder bag: I (my husband's actually) have the bag and no it does not allow for full expansion. The expansion zippers begin and end where the shoulder straps clip. This is approximately 2/3 of the bag. It is quite roomy when expanded.
Yes! I just took mine out and verified that Debra is exactly right-the iPad guide bag version does have a zipper that goes all the way around and fully expands. I got confused with the difference between the Veloces! I must say I really like mine and would buy it again, if I needed another one. I'm sorry you still haven't actually gotten an answer to your original question. You could order it, try it out and send it back if it's not exactly what you are looking for. Good luck with your quest!
Thanks Andi, that helps and that you love the bag. I think I will order it now that I know it does open, 3" should be enough width to fit my camera. I don't take a lot of gear as the camera with 50 mm lens is still pretty small compared to most lenses, so I think this will work nicely so I can play with a camera on my alone days. Also, it has my 'required' pockets for my other stuff. I'm still hoping someone will let me know for sure though.
Yes, I have the Veloce iPad bag, and was able to put in a Nikon d800e (full-frame) with a 24-105 lens attached--a pretty hefty combo! I was also able to carry two smaller primes in it at the same time. I did have it expanded, had removed the neck strap and put on a wrist strap, and there wasn't room for much else, but it worked for me.
Thanks Eric. That's exactly what I wanted to know. And my husband, who has a full frame and such gear as you, just said 'wow'. I try to keep it light by using my favorite lens which is the 50 only on European trips, but I'll be adding a small, small tripod. Debra, thanks for your help as well. Wray
