Vacuum bags?

I am thinking of using electric travel vacuum bags as opposed to the cubes that I usually use. Any recommendations? As usual, so many mixed reviews and I don’t want any packing nightmares particularly on the way home, Thx!

I don't see the advantage?
Your bag will hold more, and be heavier, and you'll need to release and redo the vacuum whenever you use something.

I agree with LizinPA. Last thing I want is a heavier bag.

What are you hoping to accomplish with the vacuum bags?

Not vacuum bags but 2 gallon zip lock bags I buy mine at Target and just lay on them to squish are an alternative to packing cubes. But note many airlines have weight limits even for carryon so still have to take care not to pack too much.

I was thinking it would make packing more organized. Cubes work fine, but I thought maybe the bags just use less space. I don’t plan on packing more clothes- the less the better.

Laurie Ann,
I used to make individual day bags out of ziplocks for my children when they were going (ex: shirt/shorts/diaper).
Regardless on how much space, I plan on not bringing too much anyway. I had no idea there was a weight limit on carry ons!

Hi there, I use compression bags for convenience, but not vacuum bags, and certainly not electric. Don't they weigh more? I just don't like a heavier bag. Coming home, I like the compression bag because dirty laundry seems to take up more room!

Sooo.. about carryon bag limits - That very much depends upon the airline. Would suggest you read the fine print of your specific ticket, it can even vary in the same class of service. Weight restrictions vary, LH can be strict, SAS & UA I've never seen a scale at checkin, but that doesn't mean they're not lurking somewhere. Good luck!

Two things....

The vaccuum bags are known to wrinkle clothes pretty badly

How are you going to vacuum seal them for your return?

My experience with vacuum bags is that they, as noted, wrinkle clothes. BUT, depending on the time of year (cooler weather in particular) sweaters, puffers, and fleece which don't wrinkle much anyway can be fit more easily into a carryon bag with less fuss. But beware the weight if more space means more sweaters/fleeces.

Ziploc has a travel-sized bag in their Space Bags line of compression storage bags. The system doesn’t use a pump to remove the air, you just roll and squeeze the air out of vents in one end of the bag. I use one to pack my over-sized travel pillow in my personal item/tote bag and it works great. They hold up well if you don’t over-stuff them. If I didn’t like the organization of my compression bags so much I might consider using just the Space Bags.
