I went down the rabbit hole and utilized an AI model to update my packing list for our trip to Italy. Using a number of specific prompts (our ages, gender, dates of travel, departing from, places we are visiting, general activities and style preferences), a list was generated that provided # of items, projected weather, and details for each city/town/activity. I initially requested “packing light” and then realized I’m more of a “pack smart”person when it produced a list for a true minimalist. I was able to update a few items (include more button down shirts for man, fewer hiking clothes in Cinque Terre). I was honestly impressed. It even had specific brands and colors (Tory Burch flats, black or nude. And don’t forget that silk or cotton scarf, patterned or neutral) for Bella Figura. Because I had been using AI to pull together my itinerary, it pulled from past info and offered suggestions (bathing suit for Monterosso beach).
My thoughts .… if you are prone to analysis paralysis, I would stay far away from utilizing this unless you have a lot of runway prior to your trip. You also have to employ GIGO. It’s not a passive tool. If you don’t like a lot of detail, state that early and ask for a simple streamlined list. As a Type A, I like that it is inclusive and can be personalized so easily. I’m still in the early stages of experimenting with AI. Would love to hear who else is using it and what tips you may have.
