UAL Basic Economy carry on

This is what I’m reading on the UAL webpage for carryon bags in basic economy:

“ Carry-on bag
Carry-on bags are not included unless you're flying to Canada, South America, across the Atlantic or on an international flight across the Pacific. You need to check any carry-on bags before airport security for a fee starting at $35. If you bring a carry-on bag to the gate that won't fit under the seat, you need to pay a $65 fee to check it.”

My flight path is Seattle>Dulles>Venice, all one ticket - changing planes at Dulles. Do you think I will have to pay to carry on my bag since my travel ends in Venice (flight over Atlantic)? Maybe they will charge for Seattle>Dulles? What is your experience/opinion?

Since it's all on one ticket and it includes a transatlantic segment, I think you're
allowed a carry-on for free.

But the level of training of gate agents is variable these days. I would call United,
or better yet, ask at the airport if you happen to be going there on a separate
trip before your Venice trip.
