Travel laundry soap

Not too sure how well these will work for sink washing, but just discovered Arm &: Hammer Power Sheets, which are laundry sheets that melt in water and turn into soap. Has anyone used these?
I bought mine at Walmart but they are available at other sources (e.g., Amazon).

I’m not sure of the brand but I have used such a product with good results

I have used something similar (like this: https://a.co/d/03fa1grk) and they work fine. I mainly use for sink washing so I cut them into strips (a full sheet is WAY too much for sink washing). If you use in a machine, I suggest tearing them up into smaller bits as high efficiency machines and colder temps (often found in Europe) don't break up the sheets as quickly. Speaking for myself, I have very sensitive skin and scented products are murder, so you might test them out before taking them on the road.

Hi Paul, we used to bring the Earth Breeze laundry sheets to wash clothes in the sink. Now I just use the hotel shampoo or shower gel as my laundry detergent.

Store them in a Ziploc bag & pull one out with dry hands.

We like Earthbreeze and use it at home as well. Lightweight, environmentally kind, easy to portion. Most loads in European machines require only half a sheet. I also cut some sheets into little pieces for sink washing. Store in a Ziplock and be sure to use dry hands!

I've started using the Tru Earth laundry and fabric softener unscented sheets at home. They work fine. I wash on cold.

Nice to not have those heavy bottles. But I still use Cheer Dark liquid for darks at home, especially indigo dyed jeans.

I have a "wash kit" for travel with several sheets of each in them plus some color-grabber sheets. So far, I've only used them in a machine while "away". No hand-laundry experience with the sheets.

I have been a Tide snob for years. On a whim I purchased online, Clean People sheets, for home use. Wow, I was surprised how well they work. The only issues I have is that my washer can take extra large loads and I believe the sheets are meant for regular size loads. They suggest using half of another. I still have Tide on hand which I use instead of a prewash spray. So instead of adding the additional quarter sheet, when I do have a larger load, I let the clothes agitate a while and then check the water and add a bit of Tide if necessary.
Typically when we travel, if the accommodation has a washer, they will provide the detergent. If I'm "sink washing", I either use some little packets of detergent I was gifted or use body wash/shampoo.

I’ve used Tru Earth sheets on trips for years.
So convenient, and they weigh nothing.
I’ve found that one strip in an Italian or French washing machine is the right amount.
I spilled oily sandwich filling on a pair of light coloured pants one year, and a third of a strip handwashing it took the stain right out.

Have been using the sheets for years. Unless something is super grimy, I've found that a quarter sheet is about right for a sink full laundry. And I keep a Tide pen handy for anything I suspect might leave a stain.

Or, fill a small bottle with the detergent of your choosing. You can also buy little premade foil packets of liquid Tide if you can't live without their trademark fragrance.

Like others are saying, any laundry sheet is far superior to liquid or powder. Maybe the only exception is if you bring nothing, then use a basic shampoo you buy there as shampoo, bodywash, dish detergent, laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, etc. One size fits all.

I've been using Beyond laundry sheets. They are fragrance free and dye free. I've used them for both hand washing and machine washing. Each sheet is perforated into 4 strips you can easily adjust the amount of detergent used.

I travel with the Unscented Washeze sheets for machine washing. I have been for years.

For hand washing, I use these smaller sheets that come in packs of 50. They are available from several manufacturers such as Travelon, Sea to Summit and Lifeventure (UK). They look like this:

Sea to Summit Laundry Sheets

Amazon used to carry them at a reasonable price. Now the price is ridiculous. I actually bought a few the last time I was in the UK where the Lifeventure brand one was easy to find and reasonable. They fit in the palm of your hand and weigh virtually nothing. I use one sheet per item of clothing.

I've used laundry sheets for years to sink wash clothes. It works well and I also go to laundromats for a proper washing.

I use whatever shower gel the hotel has for undies and socks because it’s so easy to wash them when I shower. For other sink wash, I use Forever New powder that Horsewoofie mentioned. Someone recommended it on the forum a few years ago and I really like it, it’s super lightweight and has worked on a couple of serious stains when called upon.

I only use the Earth Breeze sheets at home. The only down side is on occasion they do not dissolve all the way and leave a gummy residue on the edges of my washer. I have to take care to make sure the sheets are tucked between the clothes, and for that reason, I'm not sure they would be great for travel. I pack a 3oz liquid bottle of concentrated liquid detergent (using my husband's liquid allowance, haha!), which works very well for sink laundry. If we are at a laundromat, I'll buy whatever detergent is available there.

Thank you for all the replies. Lots of useful information and suggestions of alternatives I may try.
I was thinking that the advantage of the sheets over powders or liquids would be the ability to bring more through security. Also, if my usual laundry detergent leaked from the bottle, it would be a real mess, requiring lots of washing to clean it up.

Another option is laundry bar soap like Fels Naptha or Zote.

Both are usually available at Wal-Mart.

I think if you want to use it for machine washing, you grate some in the machine or use a vegetable peeler and let it dissolve.

But the sheets are definitely convenient for carry-on packing. They don't count against your 3-1-1 allowance. They take up less volume and weight. They don't spill. Just keep them in a zippered plastic bag to keep the moisture out.

I've used Arm & Hammer sheets, and I am totally satisfied with them. I've used them for sink washing when traveling.

I use laundry sheets at home, too, and have tried a lot of different brands. I am currently using Posies.

Posted by Mustlovedogs Our last trip, we each took the 2 oz bottle
of this and used it for everything.

I bought some of the Dr. Bronner's Peppermint during the pandemic to wash face masks hoping they would have a peppermint scent when dried.

Nope. They smelled like soap. And it wasn't a pleasant soap smell to me. I switched to washing them in my regular unscented laundry detergent. YMMV

If you plan on using a washing machine at any point, the Tide tiles work well. Unscented and NY Times Wirecutter recommended them the best of these type of laundry detergent.

I've used both sheets and the mini Tide pack. Just to add that I usually bring a large ziploc bag for shower washing. I put either piece of soap sheet or tide pack in there with water, and use it to soak undies/shirts. Not every hotel has a laundry bag available but those could work too, I just like the sturdiness of a ziploc. And I find it easier to wash in shower than on sink.

Please do try at home first. The first soap sheet I bought left clothes with strong scent and irritated my skin. So I opt for scent free now, or regular Tide mini-travel packets which go with my 3-1- bag.

I looked at laundry bar soap but they add weight and gets messy after use.

I use concentrated liquid castile soap in a travel bottle - typically Dr. Bronner's peppermint scented, or Trader Joe's peppermint scented. It works for clothes, showering, hair, you name it. And a little goes a long way, so a 3 fluid ounce travel bottle can last for weeks.

I've found it works better than laundry sheets (no gummy cornstarch gunk in the water) and rinses clean. At home I use either sheets or a basic unscented liquid detergent with an Oxi Clean add-in.

Another vote for Forever New laundry powder (i get it on Amazon). I love it for travel, and at home for my merino wool t-shirts. It washes out very clean and the clothes feel as soft as they would if fabric softener was used. I already have my little bottle filled for my trip in June.

I use the Tide liquid available as Travel Packs plus the German paste like substance in available a tube, available in Rossman's, Müller, DW and other similar shops ....super cheap in Germany, considering the volume relative to the price, but much more in Austria. , also sold in Hungary.

The Tide liquid packs I bring loads of the them and more, ie enough to last me easily without having to ration them towards the end of the 12 week trip. These 2 products I use for washing in the room sink plus a study hand brush
