Travel Clothing for a Cruise

I am taking a cruise with my family for 2 or 3 weeks in December to Egypt with Viking. We were told that nights we are supposed to wear collared shirts, and slacks.

I would like to buy a Collared shirt and a pair of slacks. I need them to be quick drying, lightweight, and wrinkle free. I would love some suggestions on good collared shirts and a pair of slacks preferably in the $100-150 price range.

Thanks,

I purchased some nice travel slacks for my husband at Untucked and Quince. We also found a pair at Costco.
Shirts we purchase at Kohls. The golf shirts are usually a good material. We just purchased a red one cause we are going on a Christmas themed cruise soon.

Look for Kuhl. They are well made, easily washable, look great. Available on their website and at REI. All I wore on our Caribbean cruise, Italy trip this year.

Columbia has some nice collared shirts in its PFG collection that wash and dry quickly.

That said, I would be incredibly surprised if Viking was too terribly strict on its dress code. Usually, it takes shorts or a big logo t-shirt to create issues in the main dining room on a cruise.

Another vote for Columbia. Quick dri shirts and pants, but nice. Costco is worth a look as well, they usually have some brand name options like Columbia, Eddie Bauer, Banana Republic etc. If you aren't a collared-shirt kind of guy and won't ever wear it again, check 32-Degrees for very inexpensive options you can leave there or donate without feeling bad. Kohls and JC Penney might have some stuff as well.

My husband picked up some of his lightweight clothes at golf store outlets. Also, check the Ross or TJMaxx type stores.

We just did a Viking Ocean Cruise. They were not picky on the dress code. We saw jeans in the dining room and also sneakers (more fashionable ones) We did not see any shorts in the dining room and on men, we did not see anything like a logo tshirt, however, there were slightly dressier men's shirts, collared and not.

+1 Costco.

Buy the quick drying stuff. I am a stickler for clean shirts, underwear and socks in a hot environment. Doing laundry on a cruise is expensive or difficult. Sink washing a pair of socks is not so easy when the sink is the size of a cereal bowl. I just jumped in the shower with my clothes on at the end of a hot day and washed while I showered. I then wrung everything out and hung them to dry overnight.

On our Viking ocean cruise, there were free laundry facilities. I don't recall laundry facilities on the Viking River cruise we did, so you can check on that. The bathrooms on both the viking ocean and river cruises were quite ample, with a typical size bathroom sink. That said, I often wash my clothes while I am showering.

Look at Duluth Trading Company. That’s where I get clothes, many with quick dry properties. Unfortunately no store in Calif. but easy to deal with by mail. Frequent sales as well as discount for first timer

For a shirt I would look at the Action Shirt that has a secure ‘napoleon’ pocket. All my travel shirts I wear when going abroad have this feature

Check out Eddie Bauer. The collared travel shirts and guide pro pants look great. They can be washed in the sink and dry overnight. Viking River does not have free washers/dryers like Ocean/Expedition, but you can have laundry done for a fee. No issues with sink washing. We are booked on this cruise in Feb 2025. Hope you post a trip report!

It depends on the voyage with Viking and the dining room in which you are going into. The more formal rooms like "the Chef's Table" on the ocean cruises are strict...I was not let in because my pants were considered a jeans material, even though they were pink and not blue, and I was wearing a fairly formal blouse. They are less fussy in the regular dining room.

They are not fussy on the river boats.
