The iPhone Pocket—new from Apple

The iPhone pocket, or as Joanna Stern of the WSJ calls it, a "jockstrap for your iPhone" Is the newest "case" for your iPhone. It comes in a variety of colors, it's stretchable, and easy to stick in a bag or carry on your shoulder or just swing from your wrist. It's designed by Issey Miyaki. And, oh yes, it's pricey as all get out. $150 for the short version and $230 for the long.

It actually looks kind of cool, although I think that I could probably cobble something together with some knit fabric that's similar. But what's the fun in that? And I do like the colors.

Coming soon to an expensive shop near you. https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/11/introducing-iphone-pocket-a-beautiful-way-to-wear-and-carry-iphone/?mod=djemTechThings

Looks like you could modify a knit scarf.

And I'm sure the knitters will be copying this soon. Would be a good way to use up leftover yarn.

I don't know. This might be a problem for those who are already scared to death that their phone will be stolen. It will be like a neon sign saying come & steal my iPhone.

Obviously, I have a different idea of beautiful than apple team

That’s one of the most ugly looking things I’ve seen lately. I think I will start giggling the first time I see someone hauling their phone around in that garbage

What a waste of money

I made a phone lanyard before I ever saw them for sale. My kids thought it was ridiculous (probably still do).

I might try to step up my game and make something similar. It will give the kids and grandkids something to talk about:)

I really liked that concept until I saw the price for the long strap design, guess I’ll stay with my cheap lanyard:

iPhone Pocket in the short strap design retails at $149.95 (U.S.), and the long strap design at $229.95 (U.S.).

I also feel this is a silly and expensive phone accessory, but if people want to spend an exorbitant money on them it's their choice. I can guarantee with absolute certainty that I won't be buying one!

According to one news item that I read this morning, these "pockets" are more popular in some countries than in others. I'm not sure if they're even available in the Canadian Apple store?

The iPhone Pocket—new from Apple

Hey, everyone is free to pursue the accouterments that work for their needs. But I'm simple and quite content to with the tech pocket built into my cargo pants and shorts, or just use the belt clip when wearing jeans.

I took a (IMO) bitterly humorous photo not long ago at a beautiful historical site in europe of a row of people of all ages sitting on a ledge with their backs to the building staring down at their phones. I'm clearly what you'd call a fud and I keep my phone in an Otterbox Defender case in my trouser pocket (zippered if possible) and only take it out in public if I need to use the GPS or translator. What little and infrequent else I do with my phone is back in the hotel. But I give Apple credit, they no doubt ran the idea past numerous focus groups (or the AI equivalent thereof) and will probably sell a ton of them, and given they probably cost a buck to make, will reap a huge profit.

and given they probably cost a buck to make....

Probably more than a buck. Keep in mind they were designed by Issey Miyake's company, who I'm sure charges more than a buck for his company's design and the use of his name.

Otterbox Defender case

Big thumbs up for Otterbox Defender, I'll never use anything else. When I got hit by the car, my phone and case survived unscathed

My first thought was thinking about a member of a hotel cleaning staff seeing one left behind by a guest and not knowing what the heck it is. Exercise band? jock strap? Type of thong underwear? Colorful little ditties, though! :)

Like Borat's mankini?

I was just going to say that it seems to be based on the mankini thong from the movie “Borat”……ewww.
I guess “designers” have finally run out of ideas.

They can charge that much because a. it's Apple and b. collaboration with Issey Miyake.
Yes that will be easy for knitters to knock off.

in my working days, I knitted something similar from my yarn leftovers to carry my work phone when I had outfits with crappy shallow pockets- skinnier strap to wear cross body, but essentially the same idea - for less that $5 and a few hours of my time that i enjoyed doing one of my hobbies.

Okay, I do a lot of knitting, sewing, and even leatherwork. I would never in a million years think this was an attractive, or even practical idea for a way to carry my phone. First, it’s ugly. It’s like some artwork I have seen that is trying so hard to be different that the artist has only managed to create something that only a mother would love. Second, and maybe more importantly, it doesn’t look very secure. As tourists, we are often leaning out over balconies and railings trying to get a good shot. I envision many phones falling to their death from this thing. It also looks like a pickpocketers dream. Really easy to grab a phone from that. Third, it’s just ridiculously expensive. I could make a similar item from very good quality leather for a fraction of the price, and carve something pretty on it to improve the looks a bit. I will be very interested to see who will actually buy this.

This is one of the dumbest thjngs I have ever seen.

And forget the Issey Miyake design fee. The actual production of the item has to cost mere pennies.
