I know Rick Steves takes. Laptop computer with him on his journeys. I plan to travel in Europe and conduct audio interviews. I will be traveling with a carry-on bag and plan to put my portable recording equipment in my day pack/ cross body bag. My notebook, charging plugs, and occasional a lightweight raincoat/ wind breaker may also be in there as well. Any suggestions? Do you know how Rick Steve's does it?

My husband takes a camcorder on all vacations and we purchased the Lowepro Passport Sling Camera bag, it had lots of padded areas for his equipment, is expandable to hold his jacket and personal items and is semi water proof. He did purchase a few smaller soft sided cases to fit inside for extra batteries. It worked well because it did not look like a camera bag that could make him a target for theft. Just looked like a daypack. He was able to put the camera and equipment in it and place that all in a backpack that he used for his personal item on the airplane along with the backpack filled with lots of other stuff.

Rick doesn't use a cross body bag. The two bags he takes with him are his Convertible Carry On and his Civita Day Bag. Not sure which one has his computer but considering the size of it I'm thinking it's in the Convertible Carry on.
I think he only carries it when he moves from hotel to hotel. I know he takes a lot of handwritten notes using Moleskine notebooks (his own.)
I like the looks of that bag! We leave tomorrow morning so I may have to look into that bag fir future trips.
Doesn't RS travel with a camera crew? What doesn't fit in his day pack could go with camera equipment. He's cheating a little but he's alowed.
